and all will turn to silver glass

I miss the Lord of the Rings.

The twins and I watched Return of the King today, and I realized just how much I miss that feeling. That all-encompassing, when-does-the-next-one-come-out, omg-let's-watch-the-trailer-eighteen-times-in-a-row excitement. I used to refresh lordoftherings.net until I got the Orlando Bloom intro. I used to read fic (and the ( Read more... )

You do know the Hobbit finally got the go ahead...with Peter Jackson...right?

You'll be able to feel that way again :)

I know! And I am excited about it. But PJ isn't directing, from what I've heard--he's producing. And so my excitement is tinged with worry, whereas I trusted him so completely that I had no such LotR worries. Except for the time he stole Glorfindel's horse and gave it to Arwen, but I've forgiven that slight. ;D

Until they name a director, I'm holding out hope that he will do it (I know he's busy with two other movies but still...must have hope!) :)

Those were three fun years, I even remember skipping the last day of classes to see the movies on release day ;)

We saw RotK at midnight when it came out--we all made shirts that said "Captain Faramir's Funky Bunch," and we put braids in our hair. I wore a hobbit cloak.

I would have done just about anything to skip school and go to Trilogy Tuesday that afternoon, but I was giddy enough just doing the midnight showing. :D

On CBS this coming weekend (the 13th, 15th and 16th I think) Eomer costars as Woodrow Call in "Commanche Moon" based on the Larry McMurtry novel of the same name. I've been fangirling this one for a year, at least.

Or you can come poke your nose in at The Hall of Fire lj group (fic recommendations) to at least semi geek out with people who still think about LotR every day. :D Banner button is on my profile page.

Wheee, Eomer movie! I love that man so much I watched Doom for him.

...Twice. XD

And I will definitely check out that LJ group. I'm sad that silmfics is basically defunct, and I need to find me some new fic communities. :D

Cool! I'll tell Binka and Rhapsody that you're on the way. (It's approved membership, but there's no "Must post an intro explaining why you deserve to hang w/ us" thing. It's het only iirc, though. So, judge accordingly. :) )

My taste in LotR fic is actually pretty balanced between het and slash, so I can be happy just about anywhere. XD

OMG...me too. I mean, I could have written this whole post.

I wonder if the Hobbit hype is going to bring it all back? Or has everyone moved on? I feel like I have in many ways, and I hate it. I miss 2002. :(

I didn't love The Hobbit like I loved the LotR books, so I'm afraid I won't be as hyped up about the movie. I mean, there will definitely be gleeful fangirliness, but I don't think it will be quite the same.

I think I need to reread the books and dive back into the fic world. That seems like it might help. :)

I didn't either--to me the Hobbit is much more of a children's book. I'm really looking forward to the Mirkwood parts and if Legolas makes at least a cameo I can die happy. But you're right, it won't be the same, at all.

I need to re-read too. For several years I re-read them every year around Christmas time, but I didn't have time to do it this year.

A Legolas cameo would do quite a lot to bring back my old squee. (And my old icons, too.) I hope Orlando Bloom isn't too busy being a movie star to remember the series that actually made him famous. ;D

Haha, good to know I'm not the only crazy who does that! I did that a lot to hear both Orlando and Karl Urban. (Just did it for old time's sake, and got Orlando on the second try! Whoo! It took a lot longer to get to Karl Urban, and oh, I just LOVE Christopher Lee's voice on his). *fangirls*

OMG the site is still up and everything?! I didn't want to try it because I was afraid they'd have taken it down. *squee* Now I know what I'm going to be doing on my lunch break. XD

EDIT: I got Karl on the first try--it took me much, much longer to get Orlando, and damn I forgot what a velvety voice that man has. Now, if only I can get Viggo...

You think Orlando has a smooth and velvety voice, just wait for Viggo's... *dreamy sigh* I just went back and did it again (and again, and again...) and I got Karl twice in a row followed by Viggo. And an earlier Karl followed by Orlando.

Man, I'm a fangirl.

Yeah, I finally got Viggo, after about 20 minutes. He sounds like sex. Like really relaxed, slightly stoned sex, or something. I think I'll need to listen to it again to decide...

Me, too. Someday there will come another fandom that will make us squee like that. Until then, we're just going to have to make big bowls of popcorn and watch all the DVD extras. (Vhen vill you vear vigs?!)
