Working It Off - OTA (Warning: emo feral is emo... and sweaty)

Oct 31, 2010 14:06

Having left the cell block, Logan barely realized where he was going until he found himself at the gym. Yes.... That was good. He had to do something - anything to get his mind off this. Taking off his shirt, he tossed it aside - and kicked off his shoes, too, for good measure. The less getting in his way, the better. Piling on the weights until ( Read more... )

Tabitha knew she should just turn and walk off at the sight of Logan brutally beating up every weight and tool in the gym, and knew she should just keep her mouth shut after seeing so many people walking in and out to bug the older mutant- but the problem with Tabitha is that, what she knows and what she wants are two very different things.
Which is how she justified strutting into the gym with no qualms whatsoever, hands on her hips and popping a large piece of bubblegum into the mildly silent room.

"You know there are a lot less destructive and funner ways to vent anger yeah?"

Tabby grinned as she turned around to take the whistling tea kettle off the stove before it broke the poor man's eardrums, well aware that he couldn't see her face. "Gracias Logan."
Letting the water cool just a little she took her sweets heaven of a concoction and got two mugs, poured the water (and just a little milk figuring it shouldn't be too sweet the first time around) and threw it all together with only a minor burnt thumb to show for it as she brought both cups to the table and made herself right at home in the seat next to him.
"Casa De Tabs is open for business." She wasn't quite sure why but being around Logan calmed her and that was a feeling she hadn't had in a long ass couple of years.

He nodded his thanks as he took the cup, warming his hands on it. Soon, it got borderline too hot to hold, but he held on anyway, the heat strangely comforting. Or maybe it was the scent, some very distant memory, long forgotten yet somehow lingering. Whatever it was, he was feeling pretty calm himself, considering.

Taking a sip, he hummed appreciatively, before looking over at Tabby. "Gramps, huh?"

"Mmmhmm. Reginald Smith; soldier, mechanic, street racer, and car thief extraordinaire. He's pretty much raised me till I was about seven, and was the one who taught me how to get buy when you need too." There was extreme pride in her voice as she spoke of the man, her obvious fondness coming across in waves.
"He was human, but even before my powers manifested he was the guy holding bruiskies with shapeshifters and ferals."

Her father had been adamant in trying to force the power out of her, but old memories had kept her hoping there was some good in everybody.

Logan shrugged his eyebrows; that was an interesting job description. Interesting life, too. Logan hadn't met that many mutants before joining the team, but then, he'd never been one for socializing. Usually, the further away from people, the more comfortable he was.

"Sounds like a hell of a guy."

"He was. Heck I probably inherited my crazy urge to stick to my guns and follow around big hairy types until they just have to love me from his crazy ass." Casually sipping her cocoa Tabby glanced at him coyly. A rather obvious smirk played on her lips as she went back to pretending she wasn't teasing, and perhaps even trying to just lift his spirits that little bit more.

There was a trace of a smile as Logan looked at her, before his eyes dropped to his cocoa. Somehow - he really didn't understand why - she did make him feel better. "Thanks," he mumbled, raising his cocoa. Because obviously that was what he was thanking her for. Not the fact that she somehow made him feel a little more human.

"So...my cocoa live up to your standards babe?" She wanted to ask about everything, including what had set him off-but she knew enough about Logan to recognize he'd clam up, and until he wanted to talk no one would get it out of him otherwise. Which may be part of why she liked him, he reminded her of her self a little bit.

He gave a soft snort, looking at the mug. "My standards ain't that impressive, darlin'."

Logan was known for a lot of things, but his discerning taste wasn't one of them. Especially when it came to food and the like. Finally, he added: "... It's good." Because it was, and he was grateful. But expressing that was always difficult for him.

"You don't give yourself enough credit big guy." Her tone was nothing short of honest, and seeing how she was in general would have no reason to lie about such a thing.

"And thank you." She played idly with the handle of her mug, chewing on her lip with the unanswered question of what happened with Rictor and the assassin guy on the tip of her tongue."

He grunted a bit, noncommittally. He hadn't meant it in a bad way, really; there were things where he knew he wasn't as good at as he should be - self-control, mostly - but, perhaps because of that, a lot of other things just didn't matter to him. That he had what was universally agreed upon to be no taste whatsoever simply didn't rate. He had more important things to worry about. What did simple clothes, stinking cigars, and a bad attitude matter? As long as he wasn't killing anyone, he was doing OK.

When Tabby suddenly fell quiet, he glanced up at her. "Somethin' wrong?"

"What happened in the mess hall with Ric and all of you?" She knew someone had tried to attack Rictor, and that the person in question was down in the brig thanks to everyone and their mothers going to visit the guy, but she hadn't been down there herself, seen him, or even really asked what had happened-and her curiosity was getting to her.
"And who is the guy who tried to off him?"

"Japanese government wasn't happy 'bout Ric's little break-down." Pun very much intended. Logan looked at his cocoa, considered taking another sip, but it felt too much like hiding. "Sent this guy to take care of him."

"Do we know who he is?"
Tabitha had personally left herself out of the loop for a bit longer then she'd ever managed before, and not only was she worried the man in question had some sort of horrible past with Logan, her curiosity was killing her.

It was tempting to spill his guts, but he couldn't. Not now, and not with her. This was his burden to bear, his fault, his responsibility. And as long as he couldn't deal with it, he wasn't going to share it with anyone else.

"Akihiro," he said, sounding a little sad. Even that much, he'd missed. He hadn't thought yet about naming his child when -... Well, he had no right to complain, did he? Anyway, it was a good name. "His name is Akihiro."

The name meant little to her, but she knew well enough that, for some reason, it meant a whole hell of a lot more to Logan so she reached over and put her hand over his and gave him a small, warm as ever smile.

"It's a cool name at least, sounds all badass and ninja like."
