Amanda had found that traveling in the compound was much easier when she was in feline form. Not that she minded walking around as a human, but she found that she got less attention when she was small and could hide in corners and cracks ( Read more... )

Rahne had been on her self-appointed security check around the compound when something distinctly feline caught her nose. Her nostrils flared as her ears almost perked in human form as she made a bee-line to where the cat was. What on earth would a domestic cat be doing out here? Rahne gave a skeptical narrow gaze at the feline or whatever it was as she attempted to figure this one out. It was possible that someone here might have a pet, but she just wanted to be safe rather than sorry as it had no identification that she could see.

Amanda's tail twitched as she gazed at Rahne, raising one paw to lick it diligently before smoothing her paw behind her head. Thankfully, feline form meant feline instincts and so she backed up just a little as she ducked her head towards the woman. She didn't know how people were ever going to react to seeing a 'pet' in the compound.

Rahne crouched down, the wolf at it's chain, wanting to investigate or give chase, but the human part of her was firmly in control for the moment. Rahne knew cats well and decided to see if it reacted with cat like instincts. With a fangy grin, she mumbled, "No cat out of it's first fur would be deceived, unlike human beings, who seems to enjoy it." She slowly extended a clawed hand held in a relaxed fashion, offering it to the cat, but meeting it halfway, observing it's behaviors very carefully.

She crouched down, her shoulders lower to the ground, and she very carefully sniffed Rahne's fingers. Her feline sense of smell was picking up something very odd and she didn't know quite what it was. Blinking at Rahne, she straightened and curled her tail around her feet, the tip of it twitching again.

Martini was just about to head into the rec room when he spied the cat. His face broke out into a grin that could almost not be contained. He loved animals, but strangely enough they didn't always seem to like him back. And it had been so long since he'd seen anything he could pet. "Oooo! A kitteeee!" He squealed out.

He moved just slightly faster than the normal speed of time to get the jump on the cat, not wanting the feline to run away. Poor Amanda was suddenly enveloped in a bone-crushing hug as Martini picked the cat up, petting it rather roughly. "Where did you come from? Better not let Razi find you, unless you like being chased around. Do you have a name?" He checked the cat, but there was no collar. "Well, no matter. I will think of one for you, and you shall be my new kitty friend..." Martini opened the rec door with the crook of his arm, and went on in, happily prattling away to the yowling cat being held rather tight.

Amanda's eyes opened wide and her fur immediately stuck out as soon as she heard the squeal. Her claws scrabbled on the carpet in a quick almost humorous Scooby Doo fashion as she tried to get away.

But, he was fast. Faster than she was. All of a sudden, she was pulled into a rough hug. She growled in warning, squirming in the man's arms, rather wishing she wasn't a cat right now. Mewling pitifully, she twisted in his grip. Dammit. She couldn't bring herself to bite him, but where the hell was he stealing her off to?

Martini plopped down on the couch, turning on the TV with one hand as he continued to pet Amanda with the other. It was like watching a little kid who didn't know how to do right. He'd start at the head, petting back until the cat's eyes were bugging out and its ears were folding back. Then he'd stroke down the back, flattening all the fur down and cauusing her legs to buckle. Then it was down to the tail, which flicked out of his way, and back to the head again.

"Now, for a name, then. Y'know, the ancient Greek goddess Selene was a dark Titan, a goddess of the moon." He flipped Amanda around so he could look her in the eye. "Seems like an appropriate name for a dark, mysterious little kitty. Do you like it?"

Okay. She felt sorry for cats. She felt squished as he petted her and she made a soft 'mrr' sound under her breath. It wasn't entirely awful, but it was still unpleasant in a way. She tried to wiggle out from under his hand and she made a displeased sound as he picked her up and turned her around.

She really needed to do her little walk abouts as something not cute. Huffing softly, she stared him right in the eyes. As much as she appreciated the name, she already had one. Alright, two.

Heather wandered through the halls, trying to familiarize herself with the compound. She'd found her room, stowed her things, bathed in too cold water and changed to clean dry clothes. She'd located Stryker's office but apparently had missed him there.

Over the next couple of days she settled in a little, but somehow, she kept missing her room mate. She knew she had one, but she hadn't snooped into the other girl's (presumably) belongings, that would have been rude now, wouldn't it?

So, exploring.

She'd poked her nose into the rec room before, but hadn't stayed to explore it. With no real schedule to keep - she felt like she should have been training or something but so far there was no one to ask about it - Heather decided to find out what kinds of entertainment the rec room boasted. She cautioned herself against expecting anything more than maybe a TV and possibly some communal DVDs.

Pausing and watching the blond, Amanda tilted her head. The woman looked vaguely familiar. She padded after her, slipping into the rec room as soon as the door was opened. She jumped up onto the couch and curled up, staring up at the woman curiously.

Heather found the TV, turned it on and got some Russian aerobics class, conducted by a man with a thick, heavy moustache and thighs that could probably crack wallnuts.

With a grin, Heather flipped channels but most of them produced only snow, so she turned the set off.

There was a sensation of eyes on her.

Turning, she saw the lovely little chocolate furred cat sitting neatly on the sofa, watching her.

"Hello, Puss," she said, mouth quirking to one side. Pets and children, this place certainly wasn't much the way she'd imagined it, at least not so far.

Heather came over and sat on the couch a foot or so from the cat and extended her had, glancing away. She'd noticed that cats tended not to stare at one another, unless they were being aggressive. They'd look, make eyes contact, look away. Short glances seemed to be polite.

Amanda tilted her head at the television (okay, that was amusing and reminded her of the television back home) and then back to the blond, simply sitting there and waiting. She ducked her head a little as Heather came over and sat down.

Moving towards the outstretched hand, she sniffed it and then waited, giving Heather a look of curiousity. The woman was familiar, even though Amanda was certain she'd never met her before. The scent, she'd smelled it before in her own room...but why?

Oh! Ha! This was her roommate. Figuring she could let her roomie in on the secret, the cat shimmered and turned into a grinning Amanda. "You're my roommate!"

Jason headed to the rec room his book tucked under his arm. He pulled the door open not even noticing the cat. He walked over to the couch and flopped down opening his book to the page he'd stuck a bookmark in. Razi and Nicky had come in wet and smelling like wet dog so he'd decided to enjoy a little peace and quiet so that he could read.

Unnoticed, Amanda tilted her head and considered the boy for a long moment. Why was a child here, of all places? This didn't seem like the best place for children to be in all honesty. She curled up on the arm of the couch and simply watched him, curious.

Jason looked up spotting the cat. He reached on hand out idley letting the cat see what he was doing before gently petting it's head. "Hello cat. You should be careful I'm sure there are people that might not be so nice to animals here."

It was a feline thing, sniffing someone's hand, but Amanda did it anyway. She had to agree with him. So far, she'd been lucky that no one had punted her through a door, but she'd been careful too. Though she was curious still, she kept her distance, curling her tail around her body as she lay down on the armrest.
