An Uncoordinated Entrance; [ota, nudge big brother]

Nov 01, 2009 14:12

The jeep rolled into the garage, and Lou was informed of who, where and when to report. Nodding intently, she took the instructions in and stepped out of the garage, looking around for the building she'd been ordered to check ( Read more... )

Since he'd made up with Dom, Logan had spent more time inside than usual, putting up with everyone else so he'd see her more often. Still, he needed to get out sometimes, if only for the fresh air. Avoiding the likes of Wade and Ric... Well, that was just a bonus.

Outside, Logan tended to pointedly ignore everyone he encountered, hoping they'd take the hint and show him the same courtesy. They usually did, if only for the look on his face. This time, though, it was Logan himself who ignored his resolution of being left alone. When he heard something some distance to his left, then saw a girl lying on her ass, he approached her.

"The thing about ice..." he said, sauntering closer. "It's slippery."

He wasn't exactly impressed, but hell, he was in a good mood - or as good as his mood was likely to get - so he held out a hand to help her up.

She gritted her teeth and nodded, "Yeah, found that one out the hard way." Fair enough, a lot of ice, she'd need to attach picks to the bottom of her shoes.

She took the hand offered, pulling herself up with his help and getting her balance back. "Thanks." She wiped the cold ice from her butt and legs, wincing slightly and leaning to pick up the dropped bag.

"Bruises are probably going to be an everyday thing." The cold didn't really bother her, the ice would. "Um, I'm looking for Major Stryker?"

Logan looked her up and down, only stopping his none-too-subtle observation when she mentioned Stryker. "New addition to the team?"

She almost had to be; this definitely wasn't one of the non-mutant soldiers. Great... Another useless team member. Logan didn't dislike the girl, from what he'd seen of her, but the place was getting damn crowded - and more team members meant more people to keep Victor away from.

She felt the scrutiny, and it made her a little awkward. "Um, yeah. Unless they just want me for a space heater." Which right now wouldn't be too bad an idea. She looped her hair behind her ears, biting the inside of her mouth.

"I'm Lou." And he didn't seem the 'let's be friends' type. Which worked very well for her. Not like she really wanted to be anyway.

Taking strolls around Russia weren't exactly ideal. What with the weather sucking fantastically. So popping outside for fresh air really was just popping outside. Jane wasn't the type to linger in the freezing cold.

He spotted the big guy -Logan something, or something Logan, he wasn't sure- walking away from some girl. Great, another new one. Rogue and Des were the only pair with hair that colour, and Rogue's had white stripes.

And then he heard her talk. And the double take wouldn't cover this. "Lou? Louisa?"

Oh yeah, that was definitely her. Striding over, Jane had a bit of a glare and frown on his face. "What the hell are you...is everything okay?" Jumping to wrong conclusions was a bit of a habit.

She turned her attention, only just managing to not fall over again, and beamed. "Hey, you idiot." Most people thought she was being cruel. In truth, she was being affectionate. Jane had always been the dork of the family.

She loved that about him.

"Every thing is fine, Mom's worried about you being in Russia, but I said I'd get you to write to her." Lou hadn't told their mother that she was going off to sign up with anything military. She was just going on an exchange as far as her mother knew. One that would bring her some time with her brother.

"We miss you."

And missing him was okay; he got that from their mother all the time. 'We miss you', 'we're worried', 'your brother's were asking for you', 'Lou's been missing you'. It was warming, and going home was probably better for it.

But he was the one who went home. Lou didn't come out to Russia. Least of all here. "I'm not sure they're too keen on family visits, Lou."

But the back pack spoke a few more levels, and the clothes, they weren't Lou's style, not really. "What's going on?" He put an arm out to hold her elbow, Lou's lack of balance on level, steady ground dictating that she'd do less well on ice. "What're you doing here?"

And now was the crunch time. "I got recruited." Tiny white lie, she was the one who went to them. "This guy Fury said I would be an asset to some special project."

Since Jane hadn't told them about his mutation; which she'd found out about through her hacker friend, Lou wasn't exactly sure how he'd take her coming out party. "I'm a mutant, Jane." Although she skipped on the 'too' part since, well, he hadn't told her yet.

"I'm a mini-microwave." In true Louisa fashion, she tried to lighten the mood with a joke. She wasn't sure if it would fall flat with Jane or not.
