The Past is Never Far *OTA*

That was it. Jack had had it. Had it with his memories showing up and turning into flesh and blood. He hadn't slept, just sat there thinking. Atticus, Victor, Asher, and now El. But the straw that had broken the camel's back was the arrival of Jessie. That had dug open a whole coffinful of rotting memories he had thought long dead and buried. He ( Read more... )

*El had been jogging that morning. The cold was making it hard, but she needed to get some air and some exercise. Being here wasn't going to change that. She jogged up past the garage and right around the site. When she was passing the rooms that had been pointed out to her as Stryker's and some guy named Jack's rooms, she heard someone crying bloody murder. She was about to ignore it and keep going, but when the yelling started again, the cop in her made her check. She opened the door at the end of the hall a crack and peeked in. And standing, bashing on the door, was the man who'd basically pushed her off to bed. She was about to leave when he turned towards her. The anger and hatred on his face had her freezing.*

((OOC: Sorry, I am a bitch to him. But me as a mun loves him.))

Jack had begun reaching for his gun as he turned. Seeing that idiot of a hypnotist standing there, he didn't even bother disguising his contempt or disgust.

"Unless you have something to say, genejoke, I suggest you fuck off."

In his best moods, he could barely tolerate the presence of mutants. Right now, it was all he could do not to reach out and strangle her.

*El arched an eyebrow.*

I just wanted to know what was going on.

*El was hit by the feeling she'd gotten the day before and she certainly didn't like it. That feeling that there was something she should know, but didn't.*

"None of your goddamn business, freak."

He spat the words out. His hands were balled into fists as he took a few steps towards her, being careful not to look her in the eye.

Rahne had simply been passing nearby when she heard the yelling. It was a voice she hadn't heard before. Oooo and whoever it was, was angry with Stryker haha. This might prove to be entertaining. Either way it was worth seeing who was so upset and she was intensely curious as to why. Slowly she peeked around a corner, upon seeing the man with the gun she gave a deep sniff. The wolf was telling her it was the hunter. Interesting. For the moment though, she was simply watching his behavior much like a deer surprised in the headlights.

Even in his fury, some sixth sense told Jack he was being watched. He turned, grabbing his gun from its holster, and had fired, all on instinct before his brain had time to process it all. He saw another new girl standing there, a bullet hole a few inches from her left temple. He recalled Stryker saying she would be joining them. Rain, or some hippie name like that. A feral.

"Got a death wish?"

Not the best opening to a conversation ever used. He felt no guilt at almost shooting someone who had not been threatening him. Hell, maybe even hearing gunshots would entice the boss out of his hole.

Rahne had been shot at before...lotsa' times. She'd side stepped to be sure she was out of the way when the bullet hit the wall next to her. She raised her hands up in a 'don't shoot' type of gesture as she stepped out into veiw, not shaken, just curious.

"No, just heard a commotion over here and was seeing what was going on. No need to get trigger happy, jeeze."

She didn't seem all that concerned with being killed or hurt, but she did want to be sure this guy didn't see her as a threat at the moment. Rahne couldn't help but wonder why this guy was so pissed at Stryker though.

The defensive gesture of Rahne was not lost on Jack. Still, he kept the gun raised, trigger-happy in his keyed up state. He glared at the girl with a look that would have turned water into ice.

"Keep on walking. This don't concern you."

This was the last thing Stryker needed right now. As if things weren't hectic enough, what with Rahne having been subdued and captured, Henry McCoy having to acquaint himself with the research, several new team members having to be integrated and accommodated with the rest of the squad; he'd gone to sleep with a pounding headache and woken up with one as well. The fact that he'd already been up for an hour by the time Hendley decided to throw a fit didn't exactly help things, either. Rubbing tiredly at his temples - and already dressed in his military uniform, with barely a thread out of place - Stryker went to the door and opened it, looking less than amused.

"Hendley, you'd better have a damned good explanation for all this."

Jack had been getting ready to kick the door down when Stryker opened it, looking stressed, to say the least. Well, that was just too damn bad. Jack was feeling pissed off and sleep deprived, not the best combination in the world when one wanted to confront their boss.

"I could ask you the same question. But I'd prefer to speak to you in private."

Without an invitation, Jack barged past Stryker into his quarters. He had already had one audience that morning, and didn't need another.

Trudging through the snow and cold to deliver her first, measly round of research was not how Hope wanted to spend her morning. Cold was not her favorite thing in the world and while she had theories, she had no proof and that annoyed her. She expected Stryker wouldn't be pleased either but it was all she had.

She was a little surprised that someone had beaten her to Strkyer's door. Usually she was one of the first awake. Odd.

"Is he not in?" she asked with a slight frown.

Jack was now pacing back and forth, rather like a wolf in too small of a cage. His head snapped up at the sound of the voice. The woman was standing on the far left, and he turned his head to bring her into his line of sight. He hadn't met this one yet, and frankly he was in no mood for the whole meet and greet bit.

"Apparently not."

"Well, that's strange." She checked her watch. "He should be in at this hour. You don't happen to see a note, do you?"

While aware of his bad mood, she chose to ignore it. It seemed like everyone had a bad mood, besides a few choice people. She was used to dealing with frustrated souls.

"Door's locked. He's either hiding out in his hole like a rat or he's out."

He gave the parody of a smile, continuing to pace. He had to keep moving. If he sat still, he'd start thinking, and if he started thinking he was fairly cetain he'd lose what little control he had left.

"Wonder if I should break the door down and drag him out of there?"
