I don't see any stipulations in the rules about age, but forgive me if this an inappropriate entry to post to your community!

Hi, I'm jigglypuff / Misaki / Alice / Kylie (I get called a lot of things). I'm a fifteen-year-old Australian girl, and I turn sixteen in November. I have a very flexible schedule. I am no longer in high school and am a distance ( Read more... )

I'll hire you to wash my dishes. Haha. I'm kidding.

Seriously though, just go to local restaurants, cafes, etc and ask if they need a dishwasher. When I was your age, I had a few friends that did that for a while. Of course, that was almost 10 years ago and the economy has changed a bit. But you should still try. :)

Good luck! And welcome!

On a further note, in my recent job search, a lot of restaurants I applied to *were* looking for dishwashers or hosts. Some were chain restaurants, and some weren't.

Well coming from restaurant experience...yes restaurants and cafés have dishwashing machines - but someone has to run them. And after all that, there are MANY things that must be washed by hand.

So yes, your interest is still relevant, and yes, if you ask around to enough places, you are likely to find one that does NOT have a machine, and may be in need of help that IS enthusiastic.

good luck!

At least in the us, dishwasher is a pretty entry level job and would be good for someone with no experiance. But you may want to look for places that specifically specialize in breakfast or lunch beacause dinner type resturants you will have to stay late typiclly. You could also look at places like odesk that are freelance work from home type things, but that would not help with the getting out.

I agree with all the above.. a dishwasher job would work well at a cafe, as Cafe's often have shifts and close down before dinner. Simply explain that you'd like to work but could only do morning an afternoon shifts. Those are actually the heaviest traffic days for customers, so you might snap up some slots quickly.

Considering that many 16 yr olds in the US still live off mommy and daddy's credit cards, I think your desire to get out and make some money NOW is a great thing!

I agree with the above. In the US dishwashing is the lowest level job in a restaurant/cafe. I think it would be pretty easy for you to find a job like that. Just go out and start asking for managers. But be sure to do it between 2 and 4 pm. That's when most places aren't busy. If you go and you try to talk to them while they're busy they likely won't even consider you.
