Flyte jumping weird... there's a shocker

I know I have complained that flyte can't jump in a straight line, but can do bendy Silvia exercises. Well yesterday, after giving up the straight line for a week or so, viola, she could jump in a straight line, and even send ahead (if i was early enough with my cue, duh) to the jump tunnel. I don't know much (anything) about jumping.

But I will say that Rumble is like Flyte in that pawing at, eating, knocking over, throwing, going around -- things like jumps.

I totally blame this on Silvia and the shaping young puppies to DO STUFF when you stand in front of them with treats.

I never shaped Razor that much.. and he just jumps jumps... It would never occur to him to offer anything else.

But we shape these damn puppies so much, they just figure it CAN NOT just be "jump this" they have to do something special... like hug it, or build something! Shaping.. .coming back to bite us in the ass.

Yeah, Flyte still does this. As you'll see from the video I put up today.

Flyte sometimes things going around is the what I'm looking for, silly girl.

I am no jumping expert but I would suggest video so people can see what is going on. My first impression is that it sounds like she is compensating either for her earlier leg issue or structure (I am not a structure expert either). Then there are also possible vision issues. It is really hard to know what is going on without seeing it. Plus, every dog has a preferred turning direction, and for some dogs it is harder than for others. Merc is 5 years old and continues to struggle with his tight left turns. He is long bodied and he is built very upright.

Okay, I loaded up a jump video :) - and yeah, Teague has a strong preferred jumping/turning side too - turns, for him, tighter one way than the other. I doubt it's vision, but it could be.

She is a bit longer bodied than Teague, so I'm sure that effects her style.

Separating rear feet? I do not remember this part;) I did want round form for collection over the bar.

Hmmm, maybe you are thinking about him splitting his rear feet over the bar when it was low and I did NOT want him doing that;) So I raised the bar so he could not.

Send me some video. I am thinking you might want to go back to cik and cap with no bar, just a wing to gain some of the understanding of bending.

Send or post video, let me see what she is doing;)

Okay, Tammy - video is up! The video doesn't look as bad as what I thought I was seeing before, so maybe it's better, or I'm being less critical.

ANd yes, come visit, it's LOVELY. Weirdly lovely, but lovely.

Hi - I'm blog-stalking Penny's blog friends and I wanted to chime in to say that Lu and I have done ST foundations too and Lu can totally do the twisty bendy stuff but straight lines suck - her jumping form sucks and she leaves out a stride where she shouldn't.
I don't know the answer cos I haven't solved the problem myself yet. I think part of it is structural with Lu... I was doing some Salo jump grids and someone else recommended I look into LM, too, so that might be my next step... maybe.
Argggg, I feel your pain.

Thanks for the feedback :) - good to know I'm not the only one with weird straight line jumping. I did a lot of Susan Salo with my 6 year old, Teague, and there was some real draw back to that too - he SAW LINES - all the teaching them to independently see the line works :) - Sadly, you might want him to be turning and he instead sees a perfectly good STRAIGHT line and goes like the wind. I've talked to many others who have had the same fall out - my understanding is that she's modified a bit now so theoretically that isn't happening as much. So I think there must be a balance.

Huh, interesting! Yeah there are a few that are about bends, or doing an 's' or whatever. I'm a bit naughty and haven't done them as much because I don't like those ones, but since I've done so much cik/cap she's fairly in-tune to turning when cued, but I'll definitely keep that in mind and do more bends. ;)
