The dead thing under our porch smells so badly I want to gag on the way to the car or to do laundry. I want to puke just thinking about it.

Umm. My understanding is that it takes quite a while for the active decomposition to stop... especially in the spring when things are warm and wet. I think you need to call an exterminator, or animal control (or, heaven forbid, the cops...).

ewww. We once had a skunk living under our driveway, in the pipe that goes through it. We couldn't kill it or scare it...we just had to hope it moved out on its own. It did, eventually.

Maybe a crow or other scavenger will brave your porch for a good meal. You don't want to wait for it to go away, it could be a while. Call animal control.

call someone you can't live like that it can takes six, repeat SIX months for that to stop smelling...and summertime it might be unbearable!

Isn't it lye that people would use to cover the smell in mass graves? Or was it lime? Somehow I can never remember. There's a scene in Full Metal Jacket where the soldiers are putting something on the dead. Whatever that is, it's supposed to stop the smell.

Lime. It hastens decomposition.
