Teaching kids self-discipline. Attention Deficit Disorder.

I teach high school kids. My biggest teaching challenge, every week, is dealing with a teenager who has Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

This page, Teaching Self-Discipline, gave me several excellent ideas to actually use this week with this boy. What do you think?

Also, this article was good: It’s Not Discipline, It’s a Teachable Moment (NYT).

I think we do need to punish kids---but only if we've made clear rules beforehand, let them know the consequences of breaking them beforehand, and give them a choice.

I will start trying the ideas today with him. Last week I wrote a list of 10 rules that I asked all my students to read and get their parents to sign. It helped my ADD boy concentrate better, but he would still start losing focus after an hour.

What do you think of these ideas above? Do you have any suggestions for me to deal better with ADD teenagers?
