I had never heard of papa pal before so I looked it up. Very interesting. I hope it pays well enough to make it worthwhile for you. Sounds like a person could really do some good.
In Florida it's $17 per hour, but most visits are only 1-2 hours long and It's hard to book more than two in a day (for whatever reason most people want you to show up between 10am-1pm, so if no one picks time slots before/after that you're out of luck.)
It's also a very new service so it's kinda janky; a lot of kinks still need to be worked out, such as ensuring that you get paid for extra time if the member asks you to stay longer. But so far they've been good about paying on time and the work being as described, so I'll keep it up between hat shop shifts.
Do you need your own cleaning supplies for Papa Pals, or do you use what the client has? I'm just curious. I always have it in the back of my mind that I should be doing some kind of gig work in addition to my full-time job, You know, because I have so much free time. *eyeroll*
No offense but it does crack me up that you've got seasonal depression that occurs during the summer. I have at least two friends here who fight it beginning right when yours ends. To the point where one of them even has a HappyLight to get them through it. I guess it's just interesting, and a bit ironic, that some of y'all are depressed by summer and others by fall/winter.
Papa Pal is pretty cool. It's for those seniors living at home as opposed to nursing homes, and it is entirely paid for by the person's insurance, so it IS truly a gap-filling program. I'm not a caretaker, but I can do basic cleaning, meal prep, and hold a conversation, so it's not difficult.
Great Dismal Swamp indeed. If you do find yourself moving to Orlando, A) my condolences and B) as ridiculous as it may sound, strongly consider picking a home that doesn't require using I-4 to get where you need to go. Considering, of course, that all of the OTHER highways are heavily tolled. Because there's a penalty for avoiding Disney lol (-_-)
Ah ok, thanks for explaining kinda the root cause of your SOSAD. That makes a lot of sense!
I feel energized by cool and cold weather, and miss it terribly. And now I know I'd have to re-acclimate having lived in Florida for too long. Anything below 70 feels "cold" to me now and it annoys the crap out of me!
Yeah...I can't recommend moving to Florida. The only time it's any good is when those polar vortexes hit and everywhere else gets those -15F temps or whatever, Florida will be sitting pretty at 37F and crying because that's "colder than usual."
Otherwise, we've got a shitty Trump-worshipping governor, traffic nearly as bad as California's (worse in some ways,) a heat index in the triple digits all summer + air so humid you feel like you're displacing water walking through it, and every single service geared toward tourists and tourism, NOT residents. It blows chunks.
Thanks! I love them. It's amazing to see different parts light up each night. It glows all day but of course you can't see it unless in a dark room, and it does seem to glow more brightly at night (not sure if this is just my perception or how the bioluminescence works.) It's getting larger so I'm going to consider starting some cuttings soon too.
