"Everything about this rotten place is odd," calls the Doctor from the entrance way of River's beach house, leaning against the lintel with his hands tucked in his pockets. "And I know what you're trying to do and to be honest with you I'm really not sure it's going to work. This entire place is fake, why would digging at it reveal anything but more fake?"
He ambles further into the house, nudging the door closed with the back of his shoe. It thunks half-way shut behind him, and he doesn't bother to close it all the way, just walking into the kitchen and rattling things around until he finds a box of loose-leaf earl grey.
"Come in. You're welcome. Make yourself some tea." River rolls her eyes, and gives him a 'look'. Not pissed off really, just amused that things are back to normal, well between them at least anyway.
"There has to be something somewhere, besides it keeps me busy. Second shelf in the far cupboard. Who's to say I didn't post the flyers just to test the 'no response' theory, anyway?" She adds smugly, folding the flyer into triangles absent mindedly. "Behind the ginger biscuits."
"Have you been to the 'library'? The one that's been here for years apparently?"

"Thank you for the tea. Thank you for having me over even though I didn't really ask I just sort of walked in," and then the Doctor cracks a bright grin and remarks in Japanese, "Please forgive my intrusion." and bows deeply at the waist. It's a genuinely formal bow, though the Doctor is grinning like a loon. What he said probably sounds like English to River, though. Hooray for the TARDIS being all brain-invading and such
( ... )
"I suppose I can forgive you just this once," she remarks jovially, "I may have to make a note of it and use it against you at some point in the future though."
And with that she makes a show of jotting it down on the back of one of her flyers, tapping the pen thoughtfully, a slow grin playing at the corners of her mouth.
"There's no local history section, well there is, but the books are empty, it's almost like they're... I'm not sure actually...props?" It's then that he takes her by surprise though with the kiss.
"Wow." Is about all she manages in response, stunned by the sudden demonstrative show. Knocked for six might be the phrase, "Now that's an apology. Althoooough," she moves in closer to a whisper in his ear, "you might have to do it again, if you really are sorry."
River's flyers have peeked the interest of at least one Taxon resident. Giles arrives at the Beach House with the one he found outside the Magic Box in hand and a vaguely amused expression on his face. "People jump at the chance to do slow methodical and time consuming work where you come from?"
"No," River smirks, "but most don't realise the laborious factor until they actually work on a dig. They think it's all ancient artifacts in a day and then home for tea."
"Are you signing up then Giles?" She quirks an intrigued eyebrow.
"It's not just fun and games and fantastic finds on the first day? Well that has me sorted, then. I'll be off now." He speaks dryly, his British accent thickening ever so slightly. But of course he makes no move for the door.
"I'm intrigued by the idea, and I have done a bit of digging though it's been years." Decades, actually, if you want to make a point of it.
"Consider yourself rota'd in then." River's a force of nature when she's recruiting, her body language and the finality that she said it with doesn't allow for much argument, if any. Besides, she's taken to Giles, the opportunity to work with him is snapped up with little consideration.
"There's a site not far from the Sanctuary that's piqued my interest, for various reasons." River continues, flicking the kettle on, and readying mugs.
"Coffee or tea? And you can tell me about the digs you've been on, what your role was etcetera."
"That's either a criminal lack of interest in where you came from, which I've seen sadly, or they all know they popped up out of nowhere. Either way? It's disturbing."
Charlotte hadn't seen the signs, but they were a good idea. Anything that would tell them more about their prison would be helpful, even negative things. "Did you actually find a place to dig, or were you just hoping for a reaction?"
"I honestly don't think they even question their origins, you know there's no history books on the place to be found anywhere in Taxon. Well as far as I've looked anyway."
"I haven't found anything, either." Exploring empty buildings had been her little hobby before people showed up. "And I never found antiques or personal items left behind or anything. That's not natural. Not human."
It wasn't and it made Charlotte shiver. Even her cold fish father would leave behind a used hanky or dirty socks. SOMETHING.
Well I'll look forward to being educated then. [River grins] We're getting quite the team together now. I'm River Song, Professor of Archeology, and you?
"Hey, you need people to dig? I can dig. Digging I can do. In fact I used to dig professionally." The enthusiasm on Xander's face wanes slightly as he realizes that probably makes him sound like an idiot, so he decides to backtrack.
"...along with a lot of other complex power tool operational-type tasks."
"That would be a fair assumption." He grins, in a slightly sheepish sort of way.
"I haven't had so much experience with careful scraping, but I'd be very willing to learn-- more willing than our charming new fellow zombie citizens anyway."
"Great!" River chirps up, writing his name down and dictating as she does with a grin. "Xaaaandeeeeer Harrrris. Chief grunt, careful scraping trainee."
"Seriously though, I have a feeling we might find something important, there's a site near the Sanctuary... Well I'll explain more once I get everyone together. Looks promising though."

"Where's your tea ball?"

River chews on the end of her pen thoughtfully, "and to go back to your previous question, both."

"It's slightly less 'power' tools though and more careful scraping. Same concept though, I suppose."
