[location: John Everton's House] [OPEN TO ALL!] BLOCK PARTY!!!

Jul 03, 2009 19:39

The time had come. Charlotte left John in charge of setting up the bar, giving him only the one request that he have a decent selection of beer, and did the work of dialing up the food. She knew she was going way over board. For all she knew no one might show up, even though she'd gotten a bit of a response to her invite. How could people ( Read more... )

Well, it had certainly been awhile since Zoe had been to a party quite like this. She looked around, still so many people here she didn't know. Sometimes she did wish she could be a bit more outgoing, but it just wasn't in her nature. In fact, she used to be worse. The fact that she had showed up was a testament of how much she had changed over the years.

She looked for her other crew mates but it looked like they hadn't yet arrived to this shindig yet. Wait, there was Inara. Zoe smiled slightly and headed over to the bar area. Might as well get a drink, some food, and settle down for a little relaxing time.

Charlotte had just snagged herself a fresh beer when a new face walked up. She stepped aside a bit to let the unexpectedly elegant woman get to the bar. After taking a long sip of her beer, she flashed Zoe a bright smile. "Welcome to the party. I don't think we've met." She put a hand out. "Charlotte Blaine, on whom all of this is being blamed."

Pondering for a moment Zoe decided a beer was good enough and picked it up. Couldn't be any worse than mudder's milk after all. "Thanks and probably not, I haven't been very social," Zoe replied, turning her attention to the other woman there. She took a sip of the drink, "There's certainly worse things to be blamed for. I'm Zoe Washburne."

Charlotte could certainly understanding hiding out. Most of them seemed to do it. "That's the point of this get together. It's too easy in this place to sit in our comfort places and never talk to each other." She lifted her drink with a wry grin. "That's also a really fast track to madness."

She took a long, long drink. "So, where are you from, really?" It was a popular question, given how many places they were from.

Look! Billy's at the party too! Except... he's not really participating. Mostly, he's hiding in corners, sipping at a beer and making a face every time he does. It's a bit of a mystery as to why he's here, especially considering how badly his social skills suck, but...

He's still confused as to what's going on, considering his not-so-graceful appearance into Taxon. Maybe here he can find someone nice enough to take pity on him.

By the time she noticed Billy, Charlotte thought for sure everyone had been greeted by either her or John. She watched the slender man for a moment before sidling up beside him. Leaning against the wall, she crossed one ankle over the other and sighed deeply. "You know, that's really very good beer, but if you don't like it, we could find you something else. Wine, cocktail, Kool-aid?"

She glanced over at him for a moment, then looked away, grinning.

He doesn't even notice Charlotte until she speaks up, and when she does, he jumps about three feet in the air. Definitely hadn't been expecting that one. He flushes slightly, embarrassed that he's so skittish, and then looks down into his beer.

"Uh, yeah. No, I like beer, just--" He stops, and then the Kool-aid part registers. "Hey, I'm not five. Sheesh."

But it's mostly just one of his lame protests. He's nervous as hell, considering a, he's at a party full of do-gooders, and two, he's talking to a pretty girl.

If only Billy knew just how many supernatural types, including Charlie really, were at that party, he'd have been stunned. And maybe a little comforted. Once his heart was beating correctly anyway. Charlotte had meant to break the ice, not terrify the poor guy. That didn't keep her from laughing a bit, though. "Right, sorry. It's just I hate to see someone not enjoying their drink."

She put her hand out, hoping the second try would be less traumatic. "Charlotte Blaine, party inflicter."

Arabella is unsure about parties to say the least, even in her full out lady-so-have-to-attend-parties days she could usually be found off in a corner or sneaking off after animals, she just didn't really get the whole dancing and socialising with everybody under the sun thing, she'd much rather have been spending her time with animals.

...Which is probably why she's here, kittens! So, yes, she'll just be standing around in a way that is just faintly awkward and looking for the kittens, and possibly Charlotte too.

...Mainly the kittens.

Charlotte and John tried to greet everyone who showed up, but there were a few times someone slipped by. In this case, the smallest residents took up the slack. First was Vivienne, who teleported herself right in front of Arabella. The tabby and white kitten sat down pretty as you please and meowed a polite greeting. Her brother, Aleister, was not quite so polite. The black kitten popped up on Arabella's shoulder and meowed in her ear.

That's about when Charlotte managed to walk up. She stiffled a laugh with difficulty. "So, you found the place okay?"

Yay kittens! Arabella doesn't quite do a happy dance but it's fairly close, instead she just smiles hugely and carefully kneels down to stroke Vivienne, making sure not to completely dislodge Aleister but not making a move to stroke him in greeting until she's quite done with the polite kitten, she's always believed in manners after all.

Of course, now she is kneeling with kittens around her, and she is well aware that she might look like a insane cat lady or something... But hey, Charlotte seems a cat person! So it should all be good, she can get on with her crazy cat lady antics without being gawped at "yes, I'm used to this type of technology... Well, vaguely, I have some experience with it and so it's not too hard to work out."

Charlotte saw no shame in properly greeting the fuzzballs. They were more fun than just about anyone else and they didn't care where they were so long as they were loved. And fed. Fed was always good. She knelt besides Arabella and grinned a bit. She'd noticed the attempt at teaching Al manners. Somehow she didn't think it would work, but nice attempt.

"I'm glad you made it. There seem to be an awful lot of men wandering the place. More women is good." Al meowed a soft complaint. Or it could have been an agreement.

Leonard's got himself organised for this little event, he made a note and everything of where, when etcetera. Only thing he omitted to take note of was 'what'. So when he rolls up to the house in his car, he's not entirely sure why he's here. It doesn't help he arrived during a lull in the music, which would have been a dead giveaway.

A knock at the door produced no response so he sticks his head inside and calls out. "Hello!?"

Another minute and Leonard would have been lost in the house with no one to guide him, but Charlotte was still inside after sending Dean and Cassie away. She came out of the kitchen with an empty pitcher in her hand and waved at the new arrival. "Hi. Welcome to Chez Everton and our first event." She smiled brightly. "I'm Charlotte."

"Hi and uh thanks," he smiles, a little bemused, All the while taking in his surroundings and working out what 'chez Everton' was in aid of, so he might seem a little distracted. But he does give Charlotte his full attention when he offers a hand with his own smile. After he looked right over her shoulder to try and see what was beyond, it has to be said.

"Leonard. Leonard Shelby. I was uh... invited."

There wasn't that much to see in the house. It was frighteningly 1950's TV, really. Charlotte hadn't lived there long enough to talk John into a steady update of the furniture. And all the other guests and the food were outside. Still, she smiled brightly at him. "Were you? John must have hit you up particularly then, because my invitations were pretty scatter shot."

She waved at him to follow her. "I'm headed out back. Come on and we'll find him."

For all her line-up of dates this week, it never occured to Vala to bring one to the party. Well it did, to be fair, but this was an event that would go ahead with or without a date, so why waste one on the occasion when she could save it for an evening with no plans?

She'd have asked Daniel, but he seems to be doing his level best to ignore her recently, plus she might be secretly sulking that despite her array of willing dates, he wasn't one of them. Not that she expected him to offer, but expected and hoped aren't the same thing.

Party etiquette lost on her, she arrives empty handed. A faux pas which she quickly rectifies with two emergency hatched pitchers of Margarita and oddly enough a can of silly string when she sees others bearing gifts. Fairly lethal Margarita at that, we'll ignore the silly string and pretend it never happened maybe?

Charlotte only noticed Vala after the impromptu 'shopping.' Very nearly clapping with pleasure that the dark haired woman had appeared, she headed over to grab a pitcher so it didn't get dropped. "Welcome to the party. I'm glad you found us." Not that finding the place was that hard. It was on the map, after all.

She led her over to the bar so they could put down the drinks. "We've got a pretty good turn out. I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised."

"I can find my way across galaxies with no transport, one city with a map provided is hardly a challenge." She gave Charlotte a smug smile, oblivious as usual to her response maybe being inappropriate. It was the truth.

"It does seem rather busy, did you bribe them?" Vala chides, light-heartedly as she sets down the pitcher and takes in the vista of the fairly bustling throng of people.

Neither wildly inappropriate comment offended Charlotte. In fact, they both amused her. A lot. "I did, in fact, bribe them. I offered them food and booze." She nodded at a couple of the guys standing awkwardly in a corner. "I also offered women, but they haven't taken me up on that one yet."
