038 ± [visual | location: 14th floor laundry] washed the dirt off our intentions

Jun 16, 2011 12:51

Another careless chucking of the tablet, another free show from the resident headcase. This time he's in the laundry room, wearing a red and black striped tank top, charcoal gray sweatpants, and a very dismayed expression. Clearly something has gone wrong in his world.

"Oh cripes!" Glitch declares and holds up a garment that looks like it has been ( Read more... )

Huh? Oh, yes, I I'm fine, just have a...laundry thing. [ pause ] Maybe it'll bring out her eyes.

N-no, no, I think I've got it under control. [ for the moment at least. meanwhile the distress of her original reply has finally registered ] Is there something else going on? You sounded a little...like there's been bad stuff.

[ Glitch: occasionally oblivious. ]

"Glitch."

It was a fortuitous coincidence that Glitch responded best to monosyllabic prompts in times of stress, and Wyatt largely preferred getting to the point as fast as he possibly could.

"Wash it again. If it still veers towards the Realm of the Unwanted, boil the shirt with a couple of sliced lemons. Should take care of the rest."

See what a good friend you got, Glitch? See? He's friggin' Martha Stewart in a cowboy hat. Only he didn't get to keep the hat, so no hat for him. Woe.

"...you know I'm starting to doubt having ever been the smartest man in the Zone."

Glitch shook his head and dropped the shirt back in the washer, then found a hanger for the robe. Drip dry seemed like the best approach. "Thanks Cain. No idea what I'd do without you."

Answer: invent a time machine to send the shirt back to before it was ruined.

Wyatt tilted his head, scrunched up his eyebrows, and gave Glitch a small knowing smile. "I'm sure you'd think of something, sweetheart."

"Eventually." A touch of the rueful, there. Detergent was carefully measured, double checked, and then dumped into the washer. "Where'd that come from, anyway? 'Sweetheart'?"

Look it has to come up eventually.

Anita couldn't help smirking at the scene that was being shown on her tablet.

"Let me guess. Mixed your colors with your whites?"

"Yeah. Again." Sigh. "I-I've gotta stop trying to do this without supervision, it doesn't usually end well."

Oh, dear. So this was a recurring problem.

"Laundry's tricky that way. Always double-check when you separate, helps cut down on this kind of... incident."

One among many, yes.

"I did, o-or I think I did. It must've snuck in, or just been under something." The world will never know. Glitch frowned and absently turned the shirt over in his hands. "At it doesn't have a hole in it, that would be worse."

Optimism: thinking of bad things that could have happened and being grateful that they didn't.

...I did that my first month at college. I ruined my favorite shirt.

[ all the sympathy. ]

Oh that's awful. [ pause ] And and seeing as this is my only proper shirt now...well, it's just insult to indignity.

It's... vintage? Ish. You could tell people it's a fashion statement.

[ the concept of "vintage" is lost on a man who dresses like an Edwardian dandy. that said ]

In that case it'll fit in with the rest of my wardrobe, i-if I ever get back to it. The limited selection's getting annoying.

[ he really misses his vests, okay ]

...strange. But then, everything about this place is, really. There are far too many machines that he's never seen before. Lately, he's started to learn to be grateful that he took his turn with the chores back at the Collegium, but...it was still odd.

"What are you doing?"

Glitch was tossing the rest of his non-hang-dry clothes into a dryer, but paused to glance at the tablet. A new face, but the hair would certainly make him memorable.

"Laundry," he replied with a shrug. "Okay, trying to, i-i-it's a little treacherous."

"It can be, sometimes." His voice was maybe just a little amused to match the expression on his face. It was hard not to be, really, considering everything. And amused was a better thing to be than, say, terrified.

Glitch would agree with you 110% on that, Stefen. Laugh in the face of danger.

"E-especially when you're absent of mind as I am." He chuckled and shook his head enough to make his corkscrew curls bounce. "Name's Glitch, by the way, I don't think I know you."
