Godric feels the bond let go like a rubber band that's unexpectedly snapped. His tablet tumbles from suddenly numb fingers, switching on as it hits the ground. Eric is gone. He knows it instantly and without question, and it leaves him with an aching chasm inside him, a black hole that sucks in all the light ( Read more... )

A sound comes from the floor, and then a voice.

"Godric?"

Godric stills perceptibly. It's a few moments before his hands leave his face, and Godric looks down at the tablet with an unreadable expression. There's a red sheen to his eyes, but he isn't weeping. Not publicly.

"I didn't intend to broadcast." His voice is quiet and rough.

"I see," the Brucolac says, turning his head slightly. He does, enough to know that there was more to this than clumsiness - if clumsiness from one such as Godric was even possible. He chooses his next words carefully.

"Are you in danger?"

"No." It's almost a laughable question. There's so little in Taxon that's a danger to Godric, and at this point he would welcome it if he thought it would do any good. "I have...lost someone, unexpectedly."

Godric. [Levi manages to sound seriously concerned with just one word.]

Godric has to gather himself, but eventually he picks up the tablet and speaks somewhat roughly.

"Eric is gone."

Oh. Oh, honey. I'm so sorry. [Levi can sympathize. So much.] Can I come over? I can be right there.

Godric isn't sure if he needs more company right now. But then again, he isn't sure he doesn't. He doesn't quite know what he needs. So he nods. If it turns out to be a mistake, he can ask Levi to leave again.

"Oh--oh, hey, do you want anything?" Elena hates how the tablets have a tendency of catching people at the worst of times, and when it happens she's taken to usually looking away and leaving them in peace, but something about this teenager's face - she has to ask if she can help, at least.

Godric hasn't been introduced to Elena, and usually that would mean putting on a polite smile for her. Unfortunately, he can't even summon up a ghost of a smile right now.

"No. Thank you." At least his politeness is still intact, although he'd secretly like to smash his tablet into tiny pieces.

"I'm sorry, I know this is intrusive," she says, softly. "I just--" He looks crushed.

"--you don't seem all right, and really, if there's anything a stranger can do - we're all in this together, aren't we? And I'm Elena, so I'm not even that strange, anymore."

Godric isn't angry at Elena's intrusiveness. Elena should never have witnessed this, but it isn't her fault that she has, and it speaks well of her that she's using the opportunity to try and comfort, rather than mock or ignore. Godric is in no position to appreciate it much now, but he will later.

"There is nothing you can do. But thank you for the thought, Elena." There's no comfort Elena can give right now that he would accept. But he'll remember her kindness in the future.

Sookie's fussing about in the kitchen again, making herself something to eat, when her tablet flashes a visual of the next room. She stops only to take the pan off the heat before rushing to Godric's side and dropping to her knees before him, one hand reaching out to touch his arm (vampire no-touching-rules be darned).

"Sweetie, what is it?"

Sookie's hand on his arm is warm and not entirely unwelcome, but it's unexpected. It makes him stiffen for a moment before he forces himself to relax again and draw himself out of his slump far enough to look at Sookie. He looks sad and weary, no way around it.

"Eric has left Taxon. I felt it."

Her jaw drops in utter shock. Disbelief, confusion and a strange sense of disappointment all seem to surface in her chest, and she shakes her head in astonishment, pushing all those emotions (especially the disappointment and sadness) away for the moment.

"Oh, Godric," she whispers, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I'm so sorry."

There's a brief internal battle with the part of him that has so rarely experienced hugging and doesn't know what to do with it, but he shoves it aside and takes the comfort for what it is. The tablet is off, and he finally allows tears to fall. He doesn't mind if Sookie sees them, as long as all of Taxon doesn't see them too.

He feels like he's torn in two. On the one hand, Eric has escaped this place and has presumably gone back to his life. On the other hand, for the two of them to be alive but their bond severed, with no guarantee they'll ever see one another again, is somehow more cruel than if one of them were dead.
