Godric feels the bond let go like a rubber band that's unexpectedly snapped. His tablet tumbles from suddenly numb fingers, switching on as it hits the ground. Eric is gone. He knows it instantly and without question, and it leaves him with an aching chasm inside him, a black hole that sucks in all the light ( Read more... )

"Oh--oh, hey, do you want anything?" Elena hates how the tablets have a tendency of catching people at the worst of times, and when it happens she's taken to usually looking away and leaving them in peace, but something about this teenager's face - she has to ask if she can help, at least.

Godric hasn't been introduced to Elena, and usually that would mean putting on a polite smile for her. Unfortunately, he can't even summon up a ghost of a smile right now.

"No. Thank you." At least his politeness is still intact, although he'd secretly like to smash his tablet into tiny pieces.

"I'm sorry, I know this is intrusive," she says, softly. "I just--" He looks crushed.

"--you don't seem all right, and really, if there's anything a stranger can do - we're all in this together, aren't we? And I'm Elena, so I'm not even that strange, anymore."

Godric isn't angry at Elena's intrusiveness. Elena should never have witnessed this, but it isn't her fault that she has, and it speaks well of her that she's using the opportunity to try and comfort, rather than mock or ignore. Godric is in no position to appreciate it much now, but he will later.

"There is nothing you can do. But thank you for the thought, Elena." There's no comfort Elena can give right now that he would accept. But he'll remember her kindness in the future.

"Okay." Blessedly, she knows how to leave well enough alone--she can hope this helped, somehow. "I hope things work out." She smiles ever so faintly, and turns off her tablet, to give Godric some peace.
