008: [visual] Just a dash of sugar, maybe a bit of soy sauce?

Oct 11, 2009 19:53

Melted chocolate, Taxon people! This is what they will be seeing if they are to look into their tablets right now. That - plus nuts, sugar, a bit of flour, cinnamon and - soy sauce. Which she isn't pouring into what looks like a mixture in a bowl ( Read more... )

"If I knew how to find you, I would totally be there."

Sweets were the next best thing to caffeine in Abby's mind. She'd had a distinct lack of both in her life since she'd come to Taxon. Abby was still struggling with this concept of dealing with being in Taxon rather than trying to get the hell out.

Cordelia glanced at her tablet and gave a small smile to the woman in it. "I'm at my apartment," she replied. "Which... wouldn't really help you find me easier, since you don't know my name."

She tapped her lip, grabbed the bag of flour, and dumped half its content in the bowl. "I'm Cordelia Chase. I don't think I've seen you before. Have I?"

Abby paced her lab. She hadn't left it since the moment she found it. It was the one place she felt somewhat safe. "I'm Abby." She paused. "Sciuto. Abby Sciuto." She was trying not to look so flustered. "I'm... new here, I guess." Everyone seemed so content with their surroundings. Maybe they weren't all taken like she was?

Oh, Abby. If only you knew.

"Well, that explains it," she said, grabbing a spoon and trying to stir - although it was really difficult to do so. "Not that I know everyone in here. Seems like the aliens kept plucking one person after the next."

Admittedly, seeing Cordelia making brownies brought back a wave of nostalgia, and Wesley found himself remembering with amusement the time they revealed an Ethros using Cordy's brownies.

At the same time, though, this was Cordelia, making brownies. Wesley recalled his conversation with Angel earlier.

"Cordy? Everything all right?"

"I'm making brownies, Wesley. You think everything's all right?"

She couldn't help but snap at him. Crap. This was the beauty of accidental posts, after all - people she didn't want to see tended to pop up at her like this.

"I'm trying to duplicate a recipe, actually. You know, the type of brownies they serve to... let's say, lawyers?"

Wesley wasn't an idiot; he could hear the sarcasm in the 'lawyers' line. The question was, which lawyers specifically Cordelia had in mind.

"I wasn't aware Lindsey was brought in," he joked, trying to diffuse some of the snappishness.

She stared at him, hard, the spatula sticking out of her brownie batter like a flagpole.

"Don't," Cordelia told him tonelessly. "I have enough people working for that damned company in Taxon to deal with as it is."

Fred was going for a bit of a walk to clear her head. She'd been feeling a bit cooped up lately...for some reason, knowing this place was a giant cave just bothered her sometimes.

"Uhm...I'd like a brownie, Cordy." She'd say with a bit of a smile, waving into the tablet. "Unless you're putting the soy sauce in them..."

Finally, a welcomed face.

"Hi, Fred," she greeted warmly. "Sure! I'm still mixing things up, but--"

At this she paused. "Why not? I remember my butler telling me that the soy sauce should, like, counter the acidity of the nuts, or something."

"Alright, I'm...well, I'm not sure where I am but I'll come over. It just might take a while." She smiled faintly, and can be seen looking around a bit to get her barings.

"Oh, well, I guess it would do that. With the nuts. But...it's still gonna taste like soy sauce."

Hmm. Was that why, in the party, no one dared to touch her brownies?

Well, crap.

"Sure!" Cordelia told Fred, mentally vowing to probably just hatch some baked goods. Either that or continue with this, since it wasn't like there was something else she could do.

"Where are you going, anyway?"

"Brownies?" Ashley's little ears pricked up at the sound of something that awesome. And yummy, especially with what she could see being broad casted through her tablet.

"I like brownies."

A kid? They had a kid who had been kidnapped and brought to Taxon?

There's something really, really wrong here.

"Uh, hi!" Cordelia greeted her. "Oh, do you?"

And in reply came some quick, excited nodding. "My mommy doesn't make them a lot. But I bet yours are nice."

She raised a brow at the mess she was making in her kitchen, and doubted that 'nice' part. But this kid was really being sweet - and incredibly cute, too! "Who's your mommy, sweetie?"

Brownies would be good, but Doyle has experience with Cordelia's brownies--though the soy sauce he sees might explain one of the problems. "What a coincidence. I was just feeling in a baking mood too."

It's a patent lie, and probably not a good one but Doyle can see she's upset...and maybe he can do something to save those brownies from a horrible fate. "Mind if I head over and help?"

She gives Doyle a sheepish look. "Oh, in the baking mood, are you? A likely excuse," Cordelia teases him. She then shakes her head and grins. "Sure. Come on over. Fred's on her way, too."

The more people she sees that aren't from Wolfram & Hart, the better.

Then she remembers what happened with Cassie. "Doyle, are you okay? Cassie told me..." And she leaves it at that.

"As I remember, I did tell you I'd show you my mother's recipe someday." He doesn't really hold out hope that they'll be edible even with a recipe but it's worth a shot. "I'll be right over."

The visual on the tablet starts to bob, and while it doesn't show his face it transfers the guilt in his voice well enough. "I got roughed up a little and in the end I couldn't really help anyone but it turned out alright."

"Did you talk to her after that? Because I did. She was... really torn about it, Doyle."

Damn those glitches!
