008: [visual] Just a dash of sugar, maybe a bit of soy sauce?

Melted chocolate, Taxon people! This is what they will be seeing if they are to look into their tablets right now. That - plus nuts, sugar, a bit of flour, cinnamon and - soy sauce. Which she isn't pouring into what looks like a mixture in a bowl ( Read more... )

Brownies would be good, but Doyle has experience with Cordelia's brownies--though the soy sauce he sees might explain one of the problems. "What a coincidence. I was just feeling in a baking mood too."

It's a patent lie, and probably not a good one but Doyle can see she's upset...and maybe he can do something to save those brownies from a horrible fate. "Mind if I head over and help?"

She gives Doyle a sheepish look. "Oh, in the baking mood, are you? A likely excuse," Cordelia teases him. She then shakes her head and grins. "Sure. Come on over. Fred's on her way, too."

The more people she sees that aren't from Wolfram & Hart, the better.

Then she remembers what happened with Cassie. "Doyle, are you okay? Cassie told me..." And she leaves it at that.

"As I remember, I did tell you I'd show you my mother's recipe someday." He doesn't really hold out hope that they'll be edible even with a recipe but it's worth a shot. "I'll be right over."

The visual on the tablet starts to bob, and while it doesn't show his face it transfers the guilt in his voice well enough. "I got roughed up a little and in the end I couldn't really help anyone but it turned out alright."

"Did you talk to her after that? Because I did. She was... really torn about it, Doyle."

Damn those glitches!

"We talked, a little. I wasn't sure how to help her more, myself." A sigh, from somewhere above the tablet.

"Well, at least you guys talked," she said, breaking up some cinnamon sticks. "I think it helps in the 'I'm-not-mad-at-you-for-trying-to-hurt-me' department."

At least he wasn't far. Doyle knocks on the door while talking to the tablet. "Here's hoping I got through to her. I brought vanilla and brown sugar."

She hears the knock and looks up. "Dennis! Door!"

A few seconds more and, when the door remained unopened - "Den--" Cordelia pauses. Oh, right.

She sighs and then goes to open it herself. She gives Doyle a smile, then asks, "What's the vanilla for? I already have some cinnamon."

"Instead of the soy sauce I saw you had on the counter; trust me on this one. Besides, it's what the recipe calls for." Doyle can't help but smile indulgently as he walks inside.

"It does?" she asks. "So where's your recipe?"

Doyle holds up a battered recipe card with faded hand-writing. "My mother's recipe. I'm hoping it being here doesn't mean hers at home has gone missing."

Cordelia shakes her head at him. Just like Doyle. "You thief."

"We don't really know how the hatches work, now. Maybe it just makes copies, like." Doyle grins as he carries the ingredients towards Cordelia's kitchen area--and even manages to hide the fond dismay at her attempts so far.

"Don't judge!" she tells him as she follows him into the kitchen with both arms crossed. "Trying isn't really the same as succeeding, you know!"

"I'm not, really!" Well, maybe a little but it's judging that comes from fondness.

"Here now, let's get started. You can measure out the sugar and the eggs. I'll get the oil and chocolate ready." True to his words Doyle heads over to the counter and starts measuring out the amounts, as directed by the card.

"Who ever thought we needed eggs?" Cordelia says - well, more like thinking aloud. "I'll hatch some outside. You... do your mother's magic in there."

She nods at him before heading out the door.
