Revisiting Old Interests Part I: Music

Oct 21, 2009 00:45

I'm in a heckava rut; have been for quite some time. My list of "old" interests is *painfully* long. So many things I've (regretfully) left by the wayside to pursue "grownup" things like careerbuilding, mortgages, and whatnot. Near the very top of that list is music ( Read more... )

Hey hun. Listen...you pick up that bass. Don't let another day go pass again. It's only fear that's keeping you from it. This was something you once enjoyed, Enjoyed so much that just seeing someone playing it as a Video game has got you wanting to do it.

So. Do it!

yes, it might sound like crap at first... but who the hell cares? It's what You want to do, and as you get used to it again, as you get better, and dare i say even more inspired, it will become second nature to you.

so stop thinking about it. It's only the naysayer in your mind keeping you from it. Just Do it. No More Excuses. Just do it.

^_^

*snaps to attention*

Yes, ma'am!

*stands at ease*

I went to my local guitar shop yesterday during lunch, and browsed what they had. Nothing I was looking for was in stock, but an order is on the way.

I *almost* used that excuse to give up right then and there. I *almost* bought a gig bag so I could pack my guitar away for good in the basement and never see it again.

As much as I would prefer to "buy local," waiting till next week for stock to arrive might give me all the excuse I need to just give it up completely. I really will need to hit Guitar Center on the way home *tonight*.

Thanks for the encouragement! I just wish that "naysayer" wasn't so damned convincing and yelling at me through a bullhorn.

Oh hun, I know that "Naysayer" all too well. Mine likes to tell me things tht make me want to give up on Everything. She's a bitch to keep ballgagged let me tell you. >,<

It IS hard to ignore them...but in the end, you're gonna be glad you did.

You know, Jt plays accoustic, electric and bass, and has all three, and for a while was going through something a lil simalar to what you're going through. in short, Life taking over. But from time to time, he puts Everything aside and gets reaquainted with his "friends"

I'm glad he does. Music and Art is a huge part of his life. Hell of mine as well. ::huggles:: and deep down, it sounds like it is of you too.

Maybe, if you go to like Fwa or something, Maybe you and he can jam together ^_^ that would be really kewl. ^_^

Just like Kat says, I have had a very similar situation to what you're having. I played in a punk band in college, and then after graduating, I got a job nearby while the other two moved to Los Angeles. There is no punk music scene where I'm at, or any scene that I fit in really. Not that I would have time for it if there was ( ... )

You and Kat have done a tremendous job keeping my spirits up (no small task, ask ayulf)! I did buy an amp, and I did play a "living room gig" as it were...and I just cannot find it rewarding anymore.

The great irony is that I have more free time now than I *ever* had in college. I was a very busy cougie in school, and every little bit of free time was valuable. But now, I have hours of time on my hands every day...and I'm not sure what to fill it with!

If I had to really think it over.. light_lion October 24 2009, 15:10:52 UTC

If it's meant to be done, then it'll be done.

That's all there is to it Tawny Shisho.

You don't need to force yourself to try it again. When it happens, it'll just happen, y'know?
