I agree with all of the above. And the reason I'm so behind in LiveJournal is because I've been feeling the same way for a long time, and I just started doing something about it. I packed up my life (actually, I really fucked that part up, and I'm hoping friends can save my arse) and right now I'm taking a break in Buenos Aires, before doing volunteer work in Peru to help clean up after the earthquake there. The earthquake was in 2007, and the place is still a mess-it's more like Haiti than New Zealand or Japan.

The reason I bring this up is because it's a really flexible organisation, so you could do it even if you only had a month to spare. So perhaps you can have it both ways-still be there for your people at home, but get the change you crave and the opportunity to give in another way. The group is Pisco sin Fronteras, and they're a subsidiary of Burners Without Borders-these are Burners, so you could even be yourself ( ... )
