next best thing to finished!

I finished the dyeing on my leatherwork project! I learned that it can be a very messy thing, and I need some eyedroppers. I don't want to dip the applicator directly into the dye bottle, because sometimes I will want to dilute the dye, but it doesn't pour out of the bottle real well. I probably could have done it with a straw, but I don't have ( Read more... )

I totally can not see where you missed a spot - I think it looks great, it is a good whitish color without being OMG HI I AM WHITE.

Eh, it's a first piece. It's just hard to cover a large area and be sure it's all covered, because it dries fast and goes on clear (ANNOYING!). I'm tickled with it.

I've got a friend who has off and on been doing silk painting. He has a lot of ... things to say about working with resists too. :)

tasha this is really beautiful. i would love, love, love it if you could teach this to me? I have a leather chamfron that i want to work, but have no idea really where/how to start.

Is it already shaped? Because then it might be too hard to carve. But if it's still flat, we could do something with it.

We could always try making another one, if the one you have is shaped. I can talk to Ken (the Tandy manager in Chelmsford) about doing a leather molding class.

I talked to my teacher, and he said that if it's already shaped and hardened, what we can do is tool pieces to glue or rivet onto the existing chamfron. We could even make it look stitched on by stitching around the edge of the piece and then gluing it down with contact cement.
