He’s outside. He’s walking through the parking lot on a beautiful fall morning when, suddenly, the world falls away. Everything goes white. Pure, aching, blinding white.
He swims in the white a moment as it fades. Fades to grey. Fades to black.
And then he hears the loudest noise he’s ever heard.

I found it interesting how the words set the pace of my reading. I read quite fast through the rows upon rows of sick people and the "Gloves on, blood wiped away, vitals taken, wounds cleaned, re-bandaged, gloves off, new gloves on, next patient." sections. But when they made their getaway on the motorcycle I was literally racing through it.
