And then stuff happened. Also, things.

It's looking less and less likely that I'll actually write up Thursday, Friday and Sunday at SDCC, isn't it? Well, in the event those recaps never get posted, I'd like to give a massive shout out to pintsizeninja, kijikun and roomies crimsonquills, maiea and webbgirl for making the whole SDCC experience totally awesome.

Even if you guys will never know what that experience was. (Hint: There ( Read more... )

Yes, maybe, but why is the fridge door open?

As somebody who has, in desperation, actually stood in front of an open fridge in a failtastic attempt to cool down the last couple of days, I have a few suggestions there.

You would, you shameless Canadian hussy. Now recite the Hamletsburg Address backwards by heart.

As a random note about Arkham - we have found that the Dunwich expansion makes the game a lot harder, mostly because when we leave someone in Dunwich, we end up needing them in Arkham, and when we keep them in Arkham, we need them in Dunwich. Also, the person who can usually get to Dunwich is not the one who is most effective at dealing with things.

We also have used the Kingsport expansion, but what we've ended up doing with Kingsport is giving someone two characters to play so one can essentially be marooned in Kingsport and handle it and the other can be in Arkham. Kingsport requires someone be there full time.

Also, the more expansions you have, the bigger the table. The game is ridiculous.

One of my few, few complaints about the place where I'm currently living is that, because the apartment is so small, the dining room table is smaller than most. Even with the extra leaf added in, the base game and an expansion barely fit -- to the point that most of the chairs are pressed into service as well. Needless to say, I'm going to be stuck playing one expansion at a time. :P

That said, because the number of people who will play the game with me number in the single digits (and mostly live in other countries), I generally play the game alone (while running multiple characters). That means I've become used to hiving off the more irritating bits of the expansions and keeping the bits I like. ;)

I already have Insmouth (this is the part where I pretend I didn't buy it just because it'd let me play an FBI agent), but I've heard cool things about Kingsport. Apart from the marooning, possibly.

See, I'd play it with you, but it'd be just like you playing by yourself.

Me: So, um, what should I do?
You: Cast a spell!
Me: Okay!

At first! At first, yes! But then, uh, then, after obsessively studying the rules for a bit, you would say things like, "Dude, you should probably not use your Bind Monster on a cultist" and I would weep gently at the beauty of it. And then I would be eaten by a Byakhee.

...

:D
