As an early modernist, I can sympathize with the Long Twelfth Century thing. The Long Eighteenth Century currently lasts from the English Civil War up to Victoria and is creeping backwards all the time. It's very frustrating, especially as far as job postings go.
Granted, my late-medievalist colleagues would probably object that a lot of job postings these days call for people who do late medieval and Renaissance, so I suppose I'm not one to talk. At any rate I'm only taken seriously for jobs that are explicitly Shakespearean, because having a Shakespeare diss (that isn't even all Shakespeare) means that is ALL YOU CAN POSSIBLY DO.
