Sherlock Season 4

Jan 21, 2017 23:20

At long last, I've watched it.

I had mixed feelings about season 4. I didn't particularly enjoy season 3. or season 2 if I'm honest. It's the same reason I haven't really enjoyed (whole heartedly) Doctor Who since season 7.

And the malais is? "Trying too hard to be clever"

I agree with everything you said, especially this: Well, the stories aren't truly awful - they are over-worked, over-engineered and frankly in the end, boring.

I also feel it was season 7 of Doctor Who where it all started to fall apart. I did enjoy the different kind of storytelling before, when it was new and fresh. But then there were so many twists and turns and people dying and living again, that I simply stopped caring as I didn't know what was real anymore.

He seems to always put up great riddles and then doesn't know the answer himself, so the beginning feels brilliant and the end let down.

I haven't brought myself to watch ep. 3 yet but as opposite to other years where I watched immediately and stayed away from spoilers, I read all the spoilers which is really a sign that I don't care anymore. I am getting tired of storytelling where everything and everyone is connected and has a meaning.

It's a shame as the visual style and actors are still great.

I agree with you. The actors and overall visual feel of the series remains utterly brilliant. I love Benedict and Martin's interactions, and their iterations as Sherlock and Watson.
I feel sometimes their story is lost/buried under the overcomplicated story.

It just tries too hard and as a result fails

I'm still digesting the 4th season of Sherlock. Not sure how I feel about it. I also knew that Mary was going to die and I had a feeling about the woman flirting with Watson. I didn't see the stuff about the other Holmes sister until you pointed it out. Then I could see it clearly.

Yeah, I'm stil debating about the season as whole, but I definitely did not enjoy the 3rd episode.

It may not have been the intention (it probably wasn't) but the message of 'Smart women are dangerous' was just too unpalatable to be handwaved away.
