I have happily passed on donation information for others who are chronically ill while struggling to figure out which beans to cook today and adding a scrap of vegetable that I have left in a vain attempt to make it more interesting. I have urged people to contribute towards getting medication for others while my own medications go unfilled. I have

can i suggest that you cruise over to the LJ community that some friends set up with me, and look it over and see if it's something you think could work for you?
if you decide that "yes, that could work for me, i/we'll try it" i have two things i can give:
first, OBVIOUSLY you can springboard off the "save_liz" comm. and signal boost there.
second, if you do set up an auction-type thingy... well, so i bought a book [yay for gift certs - if someone gave me *money*, i'd feel like i HAVE to put it towards bills/meds - but gift certs? so BOOKS] and ended up with TWO copies of it - they're used [a penny each, and i only paid an extra dollar in shipping. as accidental purchases go, it was pretty painless...]. so i'll throw the book onto the "Auction donation" pile, if that's what you choose. it's "Gate to Women's Country" by Sheri Tepper, and it's AWESOME and very much a brain-child of feminism :)

Thank you for the suggestions. It seems like a good system and when I have calmed down enough from the whole scene with my grandsons this weekend I'll look at it some more until I can grasp how it all works. I'm pretty brain dead right now!
Plus I need to get over my pride and my depression and the whole "they turn you down the first time" thing and at least TRY to file for disability. For me it feels like admitting that I did all that hard work to get out of poverty and off the government dole only to end up right back where I started (well, plus a lovely husband and an education and no kids to support). But it's clear that we can't function on just one income in this high cost area.
