Happy Tool Day!

I never celebrate Thanksgiving. Honestly, I don't do the dinner or anything related to it. My reason is almost split down the middle between the hypocrisy given how American Indians/Native Americans (pick your term) were treated subsequent to their generous welcome of the Pilgrims and various other settlers on both coasts, and the symbol being dead ( Read more... )

I know what you mean about Thanksgiving. It's sad that the Pioneers ended up conquering the Native Americans... though, the N.A.'s weren't all innocent. There was a point where young hot blooded Indian men massacred many of the women and children in a fort then the settlers retaliated with an overkill of multiple massacres. And Andrew Jackson's calvary used NA skin for bridles and boots. Everything based on fear, conquest, hatred, ideology. On the other hand, Turkeys are a symbol of giving for the NA's, and we came close to making the turkey our national emblem. They had to eat, though now.. I suppose there is something disturbing about killing turkeys in mass.

Isn't it amazing how soon you get sick of the cartoon soundtrack once you are finished rearing children? The weekends my grand-daughter is here, I am grateful for the plastic melting trip to get a television for the son's studio so I do NOT have to hear Thundercats all the three days!

Our T-day is a peaceful clean up and prep for winter as we don't celebrate for many reasons. I find the value of families that actually like to gather---I can just do without the mythos of happy-joy-joy Pilgrims and Indians since we all know it really didn't work that way in the end. Here, its just a pleasant pause to catch out breath and plunge into winter!
