“rong,” he called her.
she looks up to him, tilting her head.
“i miss you,” he said again, looking at her eyes.
she only nods at him. and before he could say anything else to her, she left. she left him alone.

“it hurts, lu,” she said.
she is the only one who call lu han, lu. and he is the only one who call chorong, rong. they shared this perfectly happy relationship. morning kisses and goodnight kisses. midnight calls. ‘i loved you, love you, and will always love you’ words. promise that they will be forever together. the naïve relationship. and they never thought about troubles they will meet along the way.

chorong decided to go to lu han’s apartment when she’s done with her part-time work in the bakery near his apartment. she didn’t call lu han beforehand because she knows lu han doesn’t have any work to do today and he probably is still laying lazily in his bed. chorong giggles at the thought of how adorable he would be right now. she takes his apartment spare key that she has from her bag and put it in the lock, opening it.

the door opens up. chorong was going to give him a huge grin but she can only gasp in shocked when she saw the scene in front of her. lu han, her lu han, is in the couch, cuddling with a girl she doesn’t even know who. chorong can only look at the two of them with her jaw dropping. her eyes get hot and she muttered, ‘sorry,’ before leaving. lu han on the other hand, looks at her in shocked before pull away from the girl and tries to catch chorong up.

chorong’s eyes get teary, her body is shaking, and she tries to walk as fast as she could. she even wishes she can disappear right now. she knows lu han well enough and she knows lu han will catch her up. she hates it. she doesn’t want to see lu han’s face. she doesn’t want to hear his ‘i’m sorry’. she doesn’t want to let her cry in front of him. she doesn’t want to let him know how hurting she is right now. she wants him to know that she is perfectly fine. it’s just…she’s sucks at pretending.

“rong,” lu han called her, just some meters away from her.

she doesn’t bother to respond or to look at him. she pretends not to hear it and keep walking even faster this time. she clicks the elevator button and thankfully it arrives soon enough for her to go in before lu han grabs her.

“listen to me, rong!” lu han yelled in front of the elevator just when the door closes.

chorong is hurting, so much. she can’t work well, she can’t eat well, she can’t sleep well, or basically she can’t live well. chorong needs him, but she doesn’t want to see his angelic face in front of her. she will softened if she sees him, she hates that. she has to let her mind speaks up this time, to just ignore him.
she meets lu han after a few days. she was sitting in the park they used to go together and while her mind is wondering off to the memories of them, someone sits beside her. she looked at this someone and when she knows it’s lu han, she prepares to leave.

he grabs her wrist, stopping her from going. “rong, let me explain,”

she looks at his pleading eyes. ‘maybe a simple explanation will be okay,’ she thought as she sits back. lu han looked at her in surprised but glad she wants to listen to him. she is after all still the same park chorong, his one and only girlfriend.

“she is my friend. she just broke up from her boyfriend and she needed someone to talk to. as a good  friend, i listened to her. i listened and listened but after a while, she started to get ‘intimate’ with me. i didn’t understand why either, she said she wants to hug someone. i know i was being a fool and i’m sorry, rong. i didn’t know her initial intentions. she wants to be closer to me, actually. she likes me. but, i never thought of that. i thought she was just feeling sad and need a friend. i’m sorry, rong. i’m sorry,” he said.

she wants to believe it. so bad. she knows lu han so well and she knows he’s a really caring  friend. and she knows he is oblivious of his surroundings. she knows that what he told her is probably the truth. but her heart is hurting, so much. she needs a break from all of this chaos.
“it hurts, lu,” is the only thing that she can manages to say.

“rong,” he calls her again. but she pretends not to hear and just walk to nobody knows where.

he follows her behind. he knows that she knew it, she just pretend not to know it. she’s bad at pretending after all.

suddenly chorong stops, causing lu han to stop abruptly. she turns around and looked at lu han. her eyes are red from crying. lu han must have been a fool; he doesn’t know chorong was crying all the way to this nowhere. he then goes closer to chorong to hug her, but she stops him.

“don’t,” she said firmly but tears stream down her face as she said it.

he looks at her with pleading eyes. he wants to embrace her. he wants to tell her that everything will be alright. he wants to wipe her tears. but he knows he can’t, because he was being stupid.

“rong, this might be too much to asked for, but forgive me?” he carefully said.

she doesn’t reply. she just stands there; looking at her shoes with tears still falling down.

“rong…” he looks at her with both worried and caring eyes.

“it hurts, lu. it hurts. the scene keeps replaying and replaying in my mind and i feel like i just want to rip my head off. i want to believe in you so bad. i know you never lied to me. i know what you were saying to me just now are the truth. but i can’t believe you and i’m afraid, lu. i’m afraid it would happen again in the future. i’m afraid that in the future it happened again but that time you are aware of the surrounding. i’m afraid you will leave me in the future. i’ve been thinking of those things and that scares me so much, lu,” she blurted. “…so much,” she whispers.

“you know i won’t leave you, rong,” he whispers to her.

“you will never know the future, lu. you will never know. and that’s scary. i wish i know the future, so i can know what should i do know. the thought of losing you is killing me, lu. these past days i kept thinking of that and i know i can’t do anything without you. and i hate that and i’m scared of that,”

“i promise you i won’t leave you, rong,”

“everyone breaks promises,” she retorts.

“i won’t. at least i will try not to. you believe in my right, rong?”

she stays silence.

“i will always love you. i will always be there for you. i will get you off from your anxiousness. i will set you apart from hurting. i will give you happiness. i will believe in you. i will not let that happen again in the future. i will not be a fool again. i will not leave you. i promise you. i will not know- will never- know the future, but i will, as hard as i could to keep these promises for you.”

she looks at him in awe. she can’t move nor say anything, but her tears stop from falling. she knows those things he promised are stupid. and she never knows whether those all will do happen in the future, either. but with him saying those things, she doesn’t feel that hurt anymore, her anxiousness is gone, she believes him again, she loves him as much again, the butterflies in her stomach fills up again, her eyes twinkle in excitement again.

and after a while, she smiles to him, happily.

“now come here, rong,” he said as he pulls her into a hug.

and as they hugged, they both know that they’re at home.
