Managed to successfully install Windows Vista on my SATA drive, so that's that problem sussed. Am well chuffed with that. When I'm back from boarding I should be able to finish off installing the necessary device drivers for all my kit and then all the software I use, and finally transfer all my data over ( Read more... )

why do you think the SATA drive was such a problem? I have SATA drivers installed in my XP machine (home made) and had no problems at all. The drives did start blank and were formatted as part of the installation though...

I don't know. Apparently I'm using XP drivers - the SATA card seemed to work fine but it would not recognize the drive at all. It might have been, on reflection, something to do with it being on a W2K Dynamic Volume. Maybe.

It's a bit odd you were having problems with Vista on a SATA drive, mine went straight on without a fuss. Went for the 64bit Ultimate edition myself, so far I've found out the 1)US Robotics don't support Vista so my wireless adapter doesn't work, I'm currently trailing an ethernet cable to the hub grrrrr 2)I can't get the multiboot to work so I haven't been able t load XP 3)Adobe haven't released a 64bit version of flash player or shockwave so I keep having to reload flash if I want to view anything that uses it 4)Whenever I sart something in Office 2003 I get the EULA licnce come up. Apart from that it seemns great so far...hopefully the grrrrr moments will die away as the drivers and patches are updated

Yeah it's odd - on several forums people had said they'd had similar issues, resolved by using the drivers at install-time. Weird but true. Mind you my SATA card is not officially supported under Vista.

What is though? It seems half the hardware manufacturers are looking at it as an opportunity to force you to upgrade your hardware.

Yup, my scanner and printer aren't supported at all and they're both Epson.
