Well now

Managed to successfully install Windows Vista on my SATA drive, so that's that problem sussed. Am well chuffed with that. When I'm back from boarding I should be able to finish off installing the necessary device drivers for all my kit and then all the software I use, and finally transfer all my data over ( Read more... )

It's a bit odd you were having problems with Vista on a SATA drive, mine went straight on without a fuss. Went for the 64bit Ultimate edition myself, so far I've found out the 1)US Robotics don't support Vista so my wireless adapter doesn't work, I'm currently trailing an ethernet cable to the hub grrrrr 2)I can't get the multiboot to work so I haven't been able t load XP 3)Adobe haven't released a 64bit version of flash player or shockwave so I keep having to reload flash if I want to view anything that uses it 4)Whenever I sart something in Office 2003 I get the EULA licnce come up. Apart from that it seemns great so far...hopefully the grrrrr moments will die away as the drivers and patches are updated

Yeah it's odd - on several forums people had said they'd had similar issues, resolved by using the drivers at install-time. Weird but true. Mind you my SATA card is not officially supported under Vista.

What is though? It seems half the hardware manufacturers are looking at it as an opportunity to force you to upgrade your hardware.

Yup, my scanner and printer aren't supported at all and they're both Epson.

Hmmm that's surprising, I've got a Perfection 3490 Scanner and they've even got the x64 Vista drivers for it, I'm mainly having problems with my HP printer and US Robotics and funnily enough my Microsoft fingerprint reader...I mean wtf are MS playing at if they're not releasing drivers for their own bloody products???

Admittedly thus far I've not had time to go searching for new drivers for my Epson Stylus Color [sic] 600 or my Epson Perfection 1250, but windows told me there were no drivers available at Windows Update. I guess I'll get around to checking on Epson's website soon enough.

Microsoft can hardly have a crack at other manufacturers not having drivers ready in time for Vista ("they've had X years with the beta to perfect their software yadda yadda") if they can't even do so with their own kit. Pot -> Kettle.
