Title: The reason to dance (Chapter 1)
Pairing: Eunhae
Ratings: PG
Summary: Eunhyuk finds a letter under his desk, which encourages him and spurs him on to work even harder, even though he has just met obstacles. Which leads to a determined Eunhyuk, wanting to find out the person behind this letter.

"Hey Eunhyuk, how was the dance audition?" Sungmin's voice reverberated throughout the room.

Eunhyuk suppressed a sigh. He knew the questions were bound to come as soon as he stepped into the classroom. His friends certainly knew how important the audition for the dance rehersal was to him, and were all eager to know the results.

"Well...Sungmin...I....didn't get in."

Sungmin and Kyuhyun wore an expression of shock on both of their faces, looking so comical and similar that Eunhyuk nearly wanted to laugh.

"Well...the judges said that my skills were good..but my dance does not reflect the exact intention and meaning of the dance, or express the exact reason I was dancing for. I wasn't expecting much anyway...so it's okay." Eunhyuk stated simply, although the tears were threatening to roll down and were stinging his eyes a little.

Sungmin and Kyuhyun stood up as one, and walked towards Eunhyuk. They tried not to look into the eyes of the dancer, knowing that he would not want them to see those tears, and that he wanted to keep his pride intact, at the least. Kyuhyun placed a hand on Eunhyuk's shoulder, while Sungmin patted him on the back. Both of them walked out of the classroom, giving Eunhyuk some personal space to think and mull over the audition.

Eunhyuk drew out a chair and sat onto it, looking down at his hands. He did not expect such an outcome, although no one had actually praised his dancing skills at all. In fact, he had been laughed at before, crumbling his self-esteem. This audition was a chance for him to prove himself, in front of all those bullies, just to fail miserably again. He kicked the table in front of him, and walked over to the window. Students were all streaming home at this time of the day, at 6.30pm, at twilight. In a few minutes or so, the sky will be plunged into darkness, leaving an empty school behind, filled with lighted lamps and spotlights. In his heart, it was the same, the empty spot is left behind, but there was nothing to fill in the space, to brighten up the hollow, sore spot.

He paused outside the room and looked through the window at the door, just long enough to see Eunhyuk's shoulders rising up while he sobbed. He quietly closed the door, and stood outside, waiting, pondering, deciding.

----Next day, Wednesday, 12pm---

"Yah Kyuhyun! Did you manage to see Eunhyuk? I have been finding him since 11.30pm, and we were supposed to have our lunch together today right?" Sungmin asked, confused.

Kyuhyun shrugged his shoulders, knowing that Eunhyuk must had his reasons when he left the class so abruptly, immediately after class ended. He grabbed Sungmin and ran to the canteen to satisfy his hunger.

----At the dance studio----

"What exactly did he mean that I did not seem to dance for a reason?" muttered Eunhyuk. To him, it was totally preposterous, dancing was just dancing, just movements, and it was not as complicated as what the judges made it out to be. He could feel the rhythm in his heart, beating, pumping, as his limbs executed out the perfect movements. He grumbled, and switched on his mp3 again, blasting the music right into his ears. He moved to the music, and flowed as if he was one with it, as if he wasn't a human, but a note, a part of the music, made exactly to fit into that piece of music, lived long enough just to be part of this song. He completed his whole routine with a spin, and suddenly noticed someone standing at the door through the mirror. He whirled around, just in time to see someone fleeing from the dance studio and out of the building. Eunhyuk immediately gave chase, but could not find that particular guy that was standing in the doorway. He dragged his feet back to the dance studio, grumbling and mumbling to himself. However, he could not forget the glint of admiration and pride in the eyes of that stranger, as he looked at the way Eunhyuk danced to the music.

---In the classroom----

"HEY! How could you abandon both of us and run off by yourself!" Sungmin pouted prettily at the guy who was walking in coolly. Eunhyuk ignored Sungmin, and went to his desk to sit down, exhausted from all the training and pressure he was giving himself. He drew open the small drawer that was underneath to reach for his water bottle, just to find a letter pasted right on top of it. He gave it a cursory glance, which simply stated "To Eunhyuk" on the front.

"Who exactly placed this under my desk?" thought Eunhyuk. He surreptitiously glanced around the room, searching for potential admirers in the class. He gave up after one search, as most of the classmates were either busy doing their own work, or sleeping and drooling on their desks. He flipped open the letter and took a closer look.

Dear Eunhyuk,

As you probably already guessed once you see this letter, I am indeed your secret admirer. Hearing that you didn't pass the auditions yesterday afternoon was utterly heartbreaking for you, I understand. However, never give up! Sometimes, looking at you dancing to yourself and humming the song so energetically, I couldn't help but to stop and stare at your movements when you practice in the dance studio. Your skills and movements are perfect, and I am unable to describe them, as if I did, I feel that I will not be able to narrate it as well as you did it, and will only degrade the standard of your dancing. Anyway, I am really really envious of you, and I hope that you will never give up on dance! No matter what, you are still one of the greatest dancers ever!

Dancing always,
Fishy

Eunhyuk raised his eyebrows at the sight of the last sentence. Fishy? What a name to give oneself. He snorted. The secret admirer was pretty nice, but the nickname should perhaps be given more thought to it. Underneath the surface, the dancer was actually bubbling with happiness. To know that someone actually admired his dancing skills all along, it was like an acknowledgment and a recognition. He folded the letter properly, and tore out a page from his own notebook. He scribbled on it, and placed it right under his desk, just as the teacher for the next class walked in.

----After school, twilight----

He walked to the desk carefully, hoping that no one would come in and catch him red-handed. He hummed a tune to himself, and opened the drawer under the desk. His heart lifted at the sight of a note waiting for him. He grabbed the note, and read it. He frowned at the question. "Idiot, of course I cannot let you know who I am. That is why I call myself a secret admirer in the first place." He muttered under his breath. He sat down and composed a letter to Eunhyuk, and slid in under Eunhyuk's desk again just before he left the classroom for home.

----Next morning, 7am----

Eunhyuk ran to his desk, hoping to see another letter left behind by that secret admirer, Fishy.
He smiled widely, showing off his teeth and gums all at a go. There was indeed a letter addressed to him, stuck to the bottom of the desk. The paper used what exactly torn from his notebook, which he had forgotten to take home the night before. He pulled it out and opened it, reading the words that person left for him.

Dear Eunhyuk,

Of course I cannot tell you who I am! Isn't that obvious? If I could, I would already have written my name on this letter and have already approached you from the very start! I don't know how to express myself when I see you straight in the face (believe me, that only happened in my dreams I think) I guess I'm awestruck and stunned in your presence at times, and I don't really happen to speak much to you anyway. I really hope that you can continue to dance as well as you do, and improve much further! Don't be let down by the results of the auditions, because you will always be number one to me! ^^

Dancing always,
Fishy

Eunhyuk muffled a laugh at the emoticon at the end of the letter. His secret admirer was getting much more interesting, and this intrigued him. He really wanted to find out who the person was, and why that person was so interested in his skills, to the extent that he/she would look at him dancing in the dance studio at times. He was flattered, instead of being shocked, happy at the recognition that he had finally received after all those years of being laughed at. His mind whirled quickly as he thought of a way to sieve out his secret admirers, to check if they were his classmates or not.

Sungmin ran over and tried to pluck the letter out of Eunhyuk's hands, intrigued by the letter that had Eunhyuk breaking into smiles at random times of the day. Eunhyuk frowned angrily at Sungmin, and brought the letter out of Sungmin's reach. Sungmin sat down on the chair next to Eunhyuk.

"I want to see that letter! Let me see it!" exclaimed Sungmin childishly.

Eunhyuk smirked, glad that Sungmin's actions had captured most of the attention in the classroom. He shrugged his shoulders, while carefully turning his back away so the others could not see what he was doing. He quickly tore out another blank page from his notebook and folded it in the exact same way that the letter had been placed under his desk, while slipping the letter into his bag.

"It's nothing Sungmin. Some silly random letter, which I was going to throw away in the first place." Eunhyuk said calmly, and walked across the room to the dustbin at the front of the room. He surreptitiously sneaked a glance around the room, and dropped the letter in full view of all the people in the room. As the letter fell, Eunhyuk noticed that a certain face in the crowd fell as well, before that person left the room. Eunhyuk caught a glimpse of that stranger's face, and smiled secretly to himself.

"Well Fishy, now I know your face. Time to let me know your name as well."
