For several days now, my left-hand pinky (and the left side of the neighboring finger, to a lesser extent) keeps falling asleep. It's the sort of thing that gets better or worse based on arm or wrist position, and yes, it does have RSI written all over it - it fits all the descriptions of carpal tunnel, except that the latter involves the bundle ( Read more... )

Sounds like ulnar nerve issues. Those can suck. I have had that and it's no fun. Take some ibuprofen and we can talk tonight at our session (assuming we're on) about some strategies (postural or otherwise) that can help.

When I had very similar symptoms (right hand, which is the one I use for the mouse) the diagnosis was tendonitis. My doctor had me wear a brace for about six weeks (typing was challenging but possible), and I don't remember taking anything stronger than ibuprofin. It flares up occasionally; when it does I sometimes wear the brace overnight but not otherwise for a few days and that seems to help.

that was my thought too.

my dad had deep tissue massage therapy for his when it got really bad, but it usually can be overcome pretty easily.

You've been typing forever, but you have a fairly new car...I'd also analyze how you command the steering wheel, because I've noticed myself making some poor decisions driving as far as a healthy happy wrist is concerned.
