He had left them to go tearing after the Doctor, without so much as a brief acknowledgement over what he was leaving them to. He'd taken the only weapon that could affect a Dalek, leaving them with useless pop-guns. And he had done it without even thinking. When it came down to it, he would always chase after the Doctor. Looking back, he realised that Ianto had known it as well, when he had tried to smile and nod as Jack made his useless promise and then abandoned them.

This bothered me so much. He knew the daleks were headed for the hub and still he goes off with a smile on his face.

Except there's no reason to believe Jack *did* know. We see Ianto tell Gwen they were coming -- but Jack was running around talking to Martha, and then he was off. Jack probably thought he was leaving them in the safest place possible (underground secret base!) while he ran off to fight the Daleks.

Anyway, OUCH! for the lovely but painful ficlet. Hopefully next week's will give you a big huggy reunion or something to inspire still more wonderful fics!

Unless I see some reaction on Jack's part to the news that TW3 is down, I'll have to believe that he went knowing full-well what was going to happen. I'm doing my damndest to keep hopeful, but given the position we left Ianto and Gwen in, and with the Doctor regenerating, I really can't see how they're going to pull off a happy-ever-after. Especially with RTD's soap-opera addiction to miserable lives!

Oh, ouch, that's so sad.

He'd taken the only weapon that could affect a Dalek, leaving them with useless pop-guns.

I still can't believe he did that.

*goes off in search of fluff to make it all better again*

It would have been kinder to have shot them before he left. That, or told them to leave by the invisible lift. It must have hurt for them to realise that they still don't mean anywhere near as much to him as the Doctor.

It's just that... I think Jack has an unwavering belief in the Doctor's ability to fix things. Maybe someday he'll lose it, but it will be a sort of loss of innocence, the last vestige of the old carefree Jack, before Torchwood.

I just couldn't figure out why Jack was so gung-ho about going off to join him. He had no way of knowing what the situation with the Doctor was but he felt it was more important to get to him than to stay with his people. That left an awfully bad taste in my mouth.

I really think it's a matter of faith. The way Ianto seems to have faith in Jack, Jack seems to have faith in the doctor.
And I do think Ianto comes back, because John made some very annoying comments about the next series: was Ianto an alien? Was he a bad guy? Wait and see...

As I recall, Naoki was making comments about having a nice rest before coming back for S3. I don't trust these beggars! And, as I mentioned before, we don't know when this is set. S3 of TW could end with the scene that opened this one. Timey-wimey stuff!

(I hasten to add that I would love to be wrong! I just fret more about Ianto's character because RTD does love to traumatise his leads, and since Gwen is indestructible that just leaves my Ianto. *whimpers*)

The only thing that gave me hope after last night's episode was that there's a S3 of Torchwood and Eve & Gareth are signed on for it!
Great fic! I'd like to believe that would be what Jack would feel if something like that happened.

Is Gareth officially confirmed? I haven't seen anything official yet. And to be pedantic, we have no way of knowing when this sequence is set. S3 of TW could end with the opening scene, for all we know. I think Gwen is pretty much bulletproof, but we've already had a close shave with Ianto...

This is true. I think they are waiting for the end of DW to make official announcements about TW S3. I'm just hoping for the best, I guess.

Hey, this isn't- I didn't- ... Fine, okay, it may be perhaps my fault. But I never said a word about anyone dying! At least not permanently. *whimpers some more* *goes in search of happy!fic*
