To be fair, the things that happened in this chapter are a result of Emma actions - they weren't in any real way random. (As a matter of interest, did anyone predict any of what happened?)
I'm glad you liked the cliffhanger. The way I currently write makes them something of an anomaly - I wrote this as a complete story, then chopped it up by section. This is possibly something I need to work on.
That scene with Emily--ouch. But I can't say that it surprises me. When Vicky was first introduced, I initially thought she would become a victim, and Prentiss (and us) would find out about Emma's past that way, but this way is even cooler. Looking forward to the next segment.
Vicky becoming a victim actually was part of a very early draft, but we got rid of that idea fairly early on. It seems to work thematically better. It would have diluted the focus on Emma drastically to weave in an investigation, presumably from Emily's perspective.
The scene with Emily wasn't part of my big master plot plan, but Emily and Emma decided to have a big argument in the morning anyway. A bit like Emma decided to invite Emily back after the coffee shop - originally that was going to happen after another meetup. But, no, Emma just had to have her own ideas.

Great cliffhanger, by the way.
