apropos of nothing

I've got fresh tarragon and I've got fresh basil, and while I'm likely to use my basil with relative frequency, I'm not sure how much I'm going to use my tarragon. Can I freeze it? Will it freeze well? I know fresh dill freezes well, but the leaves are so tiny. Tarragon's leaves have more surface area. Will it get weird if I try to freeze it? And ( Read more... )

It'll get really weird. When you eventually take out the tarragon, it'll defrost and be all, 'Why did you freeze me?' and you'll be all, 'I'm sorry, I just didn't have anything to cook with you at the time.' And the tarragon's all, 'What about basil? You used basil, you just love basil more than me, that's it, isn't it? Don't think I couldn't see you taking basil out of the freezer every other day, I was awake the entire time I was in there!' And then you just feel awkward, because tarragon's right, but telling it that really doesn't help anyone out here.

that is true, but as it stands the tarragon can see me removing the basil from the crisper more regularly than i'm removing it, so it's probably already suffering feelings of inadequacy and resentment. i guess my question is, do you suppose it's better to let it stew in its negative emotions as it rots in the fridge, or do you think it might be possible to preserve it cryogenically until such a time as i have another use for it? i don't want it to continue feeling unspecial. perhaps if its preserved somehow, it can find small comfort in the fact that i don't want it wasted.

Can you dry it? I know it weakens the herb, but better than nothing?

i have dried tarragon, though. i bought this because i needed fresh for something. if it's possible to preserve it fresh-ish, that'd be preferable.
