I'd say you are a writer, who thus far has written "adult" works, and now has a "children's" work in mind.

There was a saying to the effect that "every great writer has at least one children's book in them." British satirist Alan Coren once took this literally and cranked out a few paragraphs of "children's books" in the style of different authors. The Times has an online version of his take on Winnie-the-Pooh as done by Hemingway.
