I'd intended to wear my new tweed corset (*mutter mutter, throws something across room*) but suffice it to say that I screwed up on sewing the left half and it just wasn't ready to wear. Goggles tend to be a major part of many people's steampunk costumes because so many of us choose to play characters that are in the vein of mad scientists, or captains/crew of steamships (by which I mean, steam-powered airships - usually referred to as "dirigibles"), etc. Cogs and other industrial parts also tend to be iconic for steampunk (hence why there's a cog in my journal's header).
My goggles were hand-made (by me) from a pair of old leather boots - photo tutorial is here. My character, Augusta, is a steamship pilot who is growing discontented with her current place in life. Her outfit (with the breeches and gun) in the linked pics is my standard Augusta outfit; that's the sort of thing she'd wear when working on the ship, because she's practical and it's absurd to ( ... )

Thanks! I really can't speak highly enough of that corset - Dianna's website is Starkers and she does amazing work. Mine is a classic Victorian; I'd would love to get one of her Batty or Gabrielle corsets as well once I have a lot of disposable income again. :)
