Oh man, Sophie Tucker is terrific! And she had a really long career.

The nice thing about being a rather cliche heavyweight contralto type is that I can play Sophie Tucker and Margaret Dumont roles for the rest of my life. Sopranos and soubrettes age might have a more spectacular start, but they age out quickly once they hit "a certain age".

Yeah, if I'd have ever wanted to be an actor, I'd have aimed for "character" for the same reason. You'll work forever.
