If you don't get the deposit you're due back point out that they're breaking the law as landlords and letting agencies in the UK have to sign up to a deposit protection scheme and abide by its rules, which they sound like they are definitely not doing.

If they haven't signed up, they're breaking the law and are in a lot of trouble/bancruptcy if it goes to court.

They've signed up for that deposit protection scheme. It's just that when it comes to saying what damages there are, you can easily get screwed. I have some photographic evidence to show that the place wasn't completely clean, but not as much as I would have liked. I had more, but some of it seems to have disappeared with my laptop.
