Friday quest for bad experience with clients

I was reading through this and this the other day, as I was licking some wounds from having been pretty upset at the time with some really obnoxious customers that my colleagues and myself had been compelled to be dealing with for days. So I was thinking, I'm sure many of us who've directly worked face-to-face with customers at some point, must ( Read more... )

I work as a deputy principal of an elementary school. I have encountered kids who seem to have been taught the narrative (by their parents, obviously) that "My mom and dad are paying your salary, therefore I am entitled to being tolerated no matter what I do". They seem convinced that just because their parents are paying taxes and thus funding the school, we are obliged to turn the other way, whenever their young heirs break a rule of conduct, refuse to do their homework, or disrupt the classes, or do not show up in school just because they didn't feel like it. Well, that is not going to happen.

Oh I could say tons about hordes of obnoxious barbarians coming from a huge country in the east, but I wouldn't like to insult anybody, would I. On the other hand, if I were to use the very standard of communication espoused by that huge country in the east, I shouldn't be having any second thoughts about insulting anybody - but I still sort of can't force myself to do it. So let's just say they're generally terrible. ;-)

I could probably fill a book or two with stories from my time working front desk in the ER but frankly most of those stories are more fucked up and depressing than they are funny.

That said, my current job as a Hotel Assistant Manager / Night Shift Supervisor often puts me in some awkward and occasionally interesting binds like corralling lost drunks, arbitrating domestic disputes, and explaining to the father of the bride that while his party has indeed rented out the entire hotel for the weekend that this does not entitle him to build a bonfire on the patio much less use the patio furniture as fuel, now put down the power-saw.
