Well, this was recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which was good to see. Any objections about how this will affect the units in question should be stacked up against them to see who has the better perspective about how to create an effective fighting force.

They're already on the front lines, and a lot of what they do ends up being, for want of a better word, fighting. All this does is allow them to actually get credit for it, meaning it can count towards their service records for purposes of promotions, etc. It's about damn time.

I suspect the real backlash will be when the regs actually come out and CENTCOM issues a standing order not to get pregnant or some such, or better yet NJPs someone for violating it.

How do they deal with the risk of chopper pilots or such getting pregnant? Do you think it will be much different for ground combat units?

How do they deal with it when a soldier gets a STD?

They give them some pills or a shot to cure them...it would work here too but it's probably not the policy of choice.

Well, if we're going to go around slaughtering each other and blowing shit up, may as well make women do it too. Cause, ya know after two wars and occupations, we need the bodies folks.

Lysistrata aside, no reason women should be above men in that way.

Kids next?

Lysistrata persuades the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace - a strategy, however, that inflames the battle between the sexes. The play is notable for being an early exposé of sexual relations in a male-dominated society

It will be mostly poor women who have no options but to join the military as we have an economic draft. We will have to see more black women on those silent ABC news Sunday night rosters.

At least it will look more like America, I guess.

You're trying to draw in other issues and being inflametory. Knock it off.
