Japan ironically blames everyone while decrying the tendency to blame everyone.

So we all know how the Fukushima disaster came about right? Cost-cutting, sloppy, negligent management. Well, that isn't the whole story you see. You see, as the report indicates:

Well, TEPCO, the company who managed the reactor has to pay 2 trillion yen in damage to the affected communities and ended up being nationalized. So while the blame might be publicly spread across Japan as a whole, the costs are being picked up by the company that was the bad operator, at least as much as they were able to pay.

This is a bit unlike the financial meltdown in the US and a much better model for capitalism. The meltdown was after all a result of a whole bunch of people borrowing more than they should. You can certainly blame the consumeristic nature of US society for this. I don't see this as unfair. The idea that AIG, via the federal government, should pay 100% for the CDS that were issued to folks who knew they weren't worth all that much, now that was an outrage. This was also the part of the bailout that actually cost taxpayers something.
