Feeling Stimulated?

Sep 15, 2011 10:28

I received a check from the US Treasury for $250.00 yesterday. Fortunately, they printed on the bottom "VA Economic Recovery Payemnt".

I had to look it up.

Now, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, and at one point in my life not too long ago, this would have been a tidy sum of money.  Not a meaningful amount of money even then, but nice.  But really ( Read more... )

You could always thumb your nose at the state by spending it on hookers and blow.

Moving back home with my hoarder mother at the end of next month to save money so I can finish this law degree (not that it's likely to get me a job, but y'know). $250 would let me make a credit card payment, and eat for a month. That'd be... huge.

Nice. $250 would take care of my car payment and insurance this month, giving us a little more breathing room to put some money in savings and rebuild our "cushion", which was damaged in a recent string of bad luck (car alternator died, killed the battery, while they were screwing with that they found other repairs that needed doing, etc.). We're a one-vehicle couple - it's pretty important the car stay in working order.

I hope my fiancee gets this check, but I'm sure it was not worth taxing someone the cost of the check plus government overhead for her to get it.

I feel much the same way whenever they cut my taxes and fuck my kids over even more. At least I still have 3k in back pay coming.

I mean, it's like, every time they cut my taxes I get an extra 300 dollars over 12 months and everyone is all like, "Praise the Lord and pass the beef!" But no, the VA gives you 250 bucks and you're all bitching about how stupid it is.

Well duh, it is stupid, just like with the tax cuts.

Sorry to hear that you are disabled. How long ago did it happen? How are you dealing with it?

Hearing loss and tinnitus. Diagnosed in 1994. I wear hearing aids purchased at my own expense (the VA was not interested in issuing me hearing aids at the time).

My hearing aids cost about $3000 per ear. So this will at least keep me in batteries for a little while.
