Yes, I'm on Dreamwidth, too

Well, I finally caved and got a Dreamwidth account, thanks to par_avion. I had been dragging my feet about it, not because of any philosophical disagreement with Dreamwidth, but purely because I am a contrary creature and really resist doing things just because everyone else is doing them ( Read more... )

Why does it look so much like LJ?

The code is based on LJ's code. It's a duplicate of LJ, but with some improvements.

I get that LJ apparently had a realy freaking good code idea, but why can't people just use it as a base model and really make it their own? I've seen other sites that look EXACTLY like LJ, and seems like such a rip off.

It does look almost identical to LJ. For me, that's a good thing because I don't have to learn anything new. I'm a big fan of painless change. :)

How do I get one? I have one of those beta things, but I don't think it's a real account. I'm very confused.

I think you need to get an invite. That's how I set mine up. I bet if you asked for one on your friendslist, you'd get one lickety-split. Also, I think I'll be getting some eventually, so just holler if you need one.

That would be great if you could get me one! I keep seeing my flist say they have so many invites, and I'm always about fifteen people too late.

I just emailed you an invite. Let me know if you don't get it.

Yay, I've added you! (and I'm totally anal - I've got a list of people who I haven't heard are on DW yet and are checking them off the list as I find them there).

You're good! I'm just haphazardly roaming through other people's subscription lists and seeing who I recognize. It's gonna take me a while. :)

Sorry, I'm out of the LJ loop. Is Dreamwidth the equivalent of LJ?? Will there be a mass exodus from LJ to Dreamwidth?? Is the appeal because you have to be "asked" to join, therefore it is about posturing??? Or is there a real validity to why people are moving??

Help clear this up for me!! I'm lost!!

:)

As far as I can tell, it's virtually identical to LJ. I think some people are moving over there because they have problems with the way LJ is run. I have no idea if there is going to be a wholesale exodus from LJ. It's going to take while, that's for sure.
