I liked how Arthur was trying to kill him and then realizing that he couldn't, that it was Merlin after all and he just couldn't. Well done.

I couldn't really envision any other reaction (at least not well enough to write it plausibly). If Arthur just killed Merlin straight off, that wouldn't, in my opinion, be in keeping with his character. On the other hand, there are enough times that he's let Merlin get arrested, sacked him, etc. that I can't see him simply trusting Merlin, no questions asked, either. It's an interesting topic. Anyway, thanks very much for reading and taking the time to comment! As a new author, it means a lot! :)

This is EXCELLENT, showing Arthur (while slowly suffocating Merlin) thinking his way through what he's doing and his relationship with Merlin and his different options. The descriptions are so vivid and like I'm right there, feeling it right along with them. Like the Arthur pov, and I'm really looking forward to more!!! (So, Balinor is still alive right now, yes?)

Thanks so much! After finishing a day of three college finals, reading such kind words gives me a reason to smile (again, three college finals--I so, so need reasons to smile, possibly as much as I need sleep...).

You've caught the dynamic between the boys so well in this piece! I also love the depth you manage to give Arthur in such a short fic. Great job!

I'm very glad you think so! The dynamic between these two characters is what really draws me to the show--it's wonderful to hear that you think I'm doing that relationship justice.

You write these two amazingly! All of your detail made me feel right there. I loved Arthur's thoughts and his battle, both physical and mental with Merlin. It's truly what makes these two so potent to watch.

Well done and looking forward to more!

Oh, I so agree! They've got a complicated relationship, these two. Lots of layers. It's good fun to play around with.

Oooh. Eerie to think of Merlin handing Arthur all the power to control him with. This is a great start to what promises to be an intense read. Really looking forward to seeing where it goes.

I was really interested in how things might play out if Merlin didn't have magic as the ultimate trump card. Before, Arthur might have been his prince, but he could never technically force Merlin to do anything if Merlin truly refused. Now, though, he's actually got to listen to him whether he wants to or not, and I don't think Merlin (at least the way I'm trying to write him) has considered exactly what the implications of that could be. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to comment! It's very appreciated! :)
