illegal aliens

Seriously.  I'd have been a full half-hour early for work today if not for the illegal immigrants blocking the road as I came around a turn on Sawmill Road.  26 of them, crossing the road very slowly, herding some obvious younguns along with them along with those older children that look more adult.  They were not bothered at all by the cars ( Read more... )

Haha! Awesome. ;) I wish you had gotten a picture, too. :)
It's ducks here for us. Mallards.
Not everyone slows down though. :|

I do my best to be aware of the wildlife and to stop. There was no problem stopping this time as the speed limit on that part of the road is fairly low and even though I was coming around a bend in the road, the geese were far enough away to stop in plenty of time and let them finish crossing.

We have so.many.geese. here. The ducks don't fare as well, because of the hawks. But there's several times when I've had to slam on my brakes because of the slow geese crossing a major highway. And the roadkill is atrocious.

Another stretch of road I travel to get to the office crosses near a pheasant / grouse farm and man at certain times of year, you can't go a week without seeing pheasant road kill.

There's a ditch-pool right by the highway by my office that houses a family of mallards - I'm always worried that they'll try to cross the highway, but so far I've never seen any Duck Carnage!

Of course, I'm pretty sure they're legit citizens, but you never know.

Ha! That sounds like it should be a classic Looney Tunes episode: "Duck Carnage, Private Eye!"

Heh. You had me going for a minute there. :)

I'm just glad that the geese all go to NJ for the summer, since all the New Jersey-ites come up to VT for the summer!

Well, not ALL the New Jersey-ites ... *grin*

I'm glad I had you going ... I figured it was so out of character for me that people would immediately suspect something ...

This happened to me not too long ago while I was going to work, only it was a mama duck and her little ducklings. We were also stopped at a red light when mama duck decided to try crossing the street.

At least Mama Duck was crossing at the light while you had a red! See, some animals DO obey the traffic laws!

That fact? Actually made my day. I'd seen her as I pulled up to the light and she and her ducklings were pacing the sidewalk by the light, and then when traffic stopped off she went. It was fabulous.
