My life is one of gross uncertainty at the moment. In less than a month I will finish my school program.

Then what?

The current situation, I have a job in a place I love to work (Winnipeg Public Library). A job I cannot afford to live off of, but one I need for better paying more hour-providing jobs within the WPL. Given that it is a ( Read more... )

To be fair, the place where "Who you know" is a disadvantage is when you don't also have the qualifications. There is neither shame nor dishonour in getting a job through a friend - if you are competent and qualified for the job. And if your friend hires you due to already knowing you're competent (Rather than having to guess and hope based on a resume and an interview ( ... )

I second that, you are a hard worker and exceptionally smart. Some places that are smaller work environments prefer to hire a "known" person as it cuts time out of calling references (and most places these days don't give references, just a "they worked here from this date to this date").

So don't be worried about applying- you should. If anything this gets you valuable experience that will better get you a permanent position later down the road. No one who receives your resume later and reads that you were a spectacular worker will know that you applied through a friend...

I agree Lenora. I have applied for the cataloguing job. The term has been extended to a month.

Now comes the waiting...
