Rant about World Figure Skating Championships, particularly the Men's event

My thoughts about how amazingly Daisuke skates and how much I loved his performance at worlds despite all the things he had had to deal with... and other random stuff.

Aww this is such a beautiful post! To me Daisuke is not just a skater but also a performing artist, in the true sense of the word :)

When I first saw the tiny pic of that new costume in a practice report, I was a little disappointed, because it looked a bit dull in my eyes. But when he started performing after that terrible accident happened, it suddenly started glowing... I don't know why. I guess this is what Daisuke's skating does to your brain!
(BTW did you know there really is a song called "Golden Tango"? I didn't!)

I do feel that the top 3 men deserved their places for their technical mastery but when it comes to musical interpretation, no one can touch Dai. I am glad I live in the same era (and luckily for me, in the same country) to appreciate his skating. I hope he stays healthy till Sochi and brings us many more beautiful, exciting programs.

I agree with you 100%. I was really confused about what he was wearing when he first started, but he did begin to glow on the ice later. I am also happy that I live in this era. Now that I've discovered how amazing his skating is, I can't imagine a world without it. When I think about it, I wonder how dull it would have been without Daisuke.

Thanks for your beautiful post! 2011 was an unlucky year for our Dai-chan with the screw problems, earthquake before World's, and the death of Mao's mom before GPF. Let's hope that 2012 will bring Daisuke the rich rewards that he deserves! I too AM touched by his performance to Invierno Porteno. In fact it is my favorite long program of all - including Dai's - precisely for the things you mentioned - the layers of sophistication, the passion and emotion, and of course Dai's sheer ability to bring the music alive! Such interpretation and musicality - I have downloaded every performance of this piece that I could find and each time I see it I am touched by the sheer beauty of it! And his technical abilities are great too - I love how he appears to float on some of his jumps! I am not really a skating fan, I just happen to catch Dai's "in the garden of souls" SP and knew I was witnessing something very special! Anyone who appreciates art cannot help but be moved by the greatness of Daisuke Takahashi on ice! I also agree with your
