My thoughts about how amazingly Daisuke skates and how much I loved his performance at worlds despite all the things he had had to deal with... and other random stuff.
When I saw what happened to poor Daisuke during his long program, I broke down completely. I went through school like a walking zombie wondering how it was possible. I was so upset that I even failed my bio final. I couldn't concentrate on anything. Later when I watched it again, I realized how much I really loved everything else about this program. Now, if only it were clean. I was also hit by the fact that he changed his costume again and I am absolutely in love with it.

originallove coined it the "golden tango" and I have yet to ask permission to throw that term around, but it really was a golden tango. Dai usually looks handsome in whatever he wears, but I never knew how wonderful gold looked on him until now. I also loved the detail and patterning in the sleeve. Oh Dai, will you ever stop making my heart race? My only change would be to get rid of that illusion mesh. But yes, back to the detailing. I especially loved the back of his costume. I feel like a creeper, but you could really see how well proportioned he was from the back and the beauty of the beading(?) in his costume. I thought it was a great choice and that he skated like the prince of ice he is. So yes, I'm really sad that he didn't skate a clean program in this costume so that I could save a perfect video of it onto my iphone. Regardless, I'll still get that video. I hope he skates it one more time and shows the world how amazing he can be.
I was also particularly amazed because he added a whole another like 3 billion layers of sophistication to the already sophisticated Invierno Porteno. I am always in love with Daisuke's music selection and his interpretation of the music, so I was extremely amazed with his performance despite the jump and skate issues. I don't understand why his program components score wasn't higher. As a violinist and lover of classical music, my breath stopped while watching his program. His work was completely original and highly emotional. He understands the music he's skating to and he really brings it out. Piazolla is also just so much better than the generic brand classical music that most people tend to use.
Which brings me to my other complaint, Patrick Chan performed underwhelmingly to me. I was highly disappointed with isu judges for scoring him so highly. I understand that he completed some big point getters and probably should have one because of his technical elements, there was no musicality in his program. I lost a lot of respect for ISU judges and now can only think of them as stupid asses who don't understand classical music or art. (excuse me, but for now those are my feelings). I love Phantom of the Opera. Let me repeat that, I LOVE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. I sing it in the shower, in the kitchen, before I go to bed, and everywhere possible. I know all the words to it and all of the songs. Daisuke's performance of phantom really brought out the essence of phantom (not surprisingly since he makes whatever he skates to amazing). However, even the arrangement of Patrick's "phantasia" (What the hell is that?) totally showed a complete lack of understanding to the music. It dumbed down Phantom to a pre-toddler level and I was dumbstruck at how horrible it was. I read once and completely agree that though it was okay technically, you could pick up that routine and put it to any music, that's how much he ignored everything important and heartfelt about Phantom. He didn't listen to the music, didn't express or interpret it. It seemed like he didn't know what he was skating to. There is no way he deserved a 10 for any of that. In reality, I don't think anyone deserves a 10 for artistry in any way since I don't believe in perfection, but if anyone did deserve it, Daisuke did for that beautiful Piazolla. Dai deserved a 10 for interpretation, Patrick didn't deserve half that score. I was a little iffy about the music at first for Dai, because I had expected an upbeat tango, but after the 2nd time, I realized how much more I loved it and how it was a mass of overflowing emotion. He showed his ability to take a mature and romantic piece and express it. I literally felt like he was screaming out in pain and love during his long programs. I never get bored of it. Patrick's was just boring from the onset. It pissed me off how a person who only expressed "wee! look at me!" on the ice could beat a man who expressed "I love you so much my heart is shattering. My world is descending into madness, and my love for you is all that's left."
Okay, on other notes. Artur Gachinski was a highlight for me, as was Plushenko cameos (though NBC really ruined them. Stupid obnoxious commentators. I swear they're anti-Russia). Arturo his a light of hope for Russia and I wish him well. I like his spunk and attitude. He has a bright future. My only hope is that he or Mishin stops with those stupid arm flail-y movements that are highly questionable when it comes to expression of emotions. Good think that it worked with Shostakovich though. I also loved the pink gloves. That's confidence. :)
Though I'm not crazily in love with Taka (he's just cute), I'm happy that he won silver. I'm still moping over the crash at the GPF, but since I'm a supporter of Team Japan, I'm happy.
Ice Dancing
Meryl Davis and Charlie White - what can I say, they were beautiful. I love them the most. They just exude such a comfortable aura that makes you want to watch them. In contrast, Virtue&Moir, though also great, seem to try too hard to be sexy all the time that I get a little uncomfortable with them. Loved them both though.
Women's
I don't care about women's much. Everyone skated quite boringly. There was little speed and passion. I'm happy for MIki and sad for Mao though.
