Retrogression

I've looked over the perennials in my yard this year, and I've just gone through all the photos of past years, and my suspicions have been confirmed: with a few exceptions, the perennials get smaller every year, and many flat-out die early deaths.

Your garden is so much nicer than mine. I have no time or inclination to put much effort into mine. If anything looks good back there, it's Andy's doing and he's away nearly all summer! The only things that we can count on is the wild roses, which would take over if allowed, the lily of the valley and the plume poppy. The plume poppy would take over as well, but Andy chops that back to nothing every year. $5 worth of tiny plant and every fall it's a 6 foot high mass of foliage. Totally care-free. Probably the best thing I ever bought for the garden.

The roses came with the house. :D
