Preliminary Verdict

Fatty incursions in the liver, causing irritation. Probably non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which is often associated with diabetes. Which, as far as I know, I don't have. But they siphoned off 7 vials of blood to check for cholesterol (which has been OK thus far) and insulin levels (my sugar levels have been OK) and to see what's going on ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm not really happy with this non-answer. Knowing that I have fat incursions helps me only a little. If there's irritation, that would explain the fatigue, but the only way to know if I have irritation is with a biopsy.

Most of my problem with exercising has to do with time. I spend 10-12 hours at work just to log 8 hours, and then I get home so late that exercise would mess with my sleep cycle. Hooray.

Ok, most of my problem with exercising is that I despise exercise with my whole soul, but the time thing is true, too.

I'll just have to see what the next round of test results show.

(First of all, I meant to say that I have "an UNusual form" of Type 2 Diabetes, not "an usual form." Most Type 2 Diabetics have high blood sugar all the time, and their blood sugar is often at its highest when they wake up. Mine is normal when I wake up, but if I don't take Byetta it soars when I eat and then crashes way down a couple of hours later ( ... )

Hi, again.

I was looking up some information on Actos (one of the many drugs that Tom takes), and came across this on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiazolidinedione:

"The only approved use of the thiazolidinediones is in diabetes mellitus type 2. It is being investigated experimentally in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH),[2] psoriasis,[3] and other conditions.[4]"

So, should you take Actos? Well, it has a number of side effects, including weight gain. But, if you do turn out to have insulin resistance, it might be worth considering, although a different diabetes drug, metformin, is generally tried first. (I used to take metformin, but I find Byetta works far better for me. Neither Byetta nor metformin help Tom all that much, though.)
